2 Chopper ideas

#1: This idea has maby been suggested, but in a bit diffrent form.

Locking your position in the Merlin. So you could run into it trough the rear door (or jump in trough the doors) and press 'e' when all spots are full. This would lock your position to the chopper so that you wouldnt be teamkilled by the moving chopper. This would get a use for the rear door, fill the chopper with players and drop them off.

It might be hardcoded but its worth to give it a go as an idea ;-)


#2: Parachutes as ammo for the transport choppers. Once usable parachutes for the players inside the chopper to use so that they can do high altitude drops from the transport choppers.
OR If not "realistic" enough, there could be a requestable kit like 'Parachute assault' or equalient so that that class would have one of the less good weapons like for UK the medic or engineer rifles and a parachute so you could do an "air-strike" and ex. go hunt for caches on AlBasrah.

This shouldnt be hard-coded and it would make the choppers a bit more usable and realistic.

A good weapon set for the a UK Parashooter could be:
Knife
Medic/Engineer rifle
2 Grenades
Binoculars

and ofcourse the single-use parashute.

SOrry if one or both of them has been suggested earlyer.

Personally I think fast ropes are more appropriate...(inside joke)

1) Unfortunately it's got nothing to do with seats. It's just impossible in the BF2 game's engine to stop *anything* from sliding around on a moving vehicle. If it were possible, the team (along with every other BF2 mod) would have done it already - for things like landing craft, chinooks, etc.

2) This one's been suggested before and as far as I'm aware, as the parachute isn't technically a weapon it can't be made single use. The "'chute soldier" type loadout has been suggested endless times lol.

maybe there should come a airborn map where america has special airborn kits. like airborn assault and airborn special force
and then they have parachute. then it must be a map with mutch choppers and one large town where the paradrops can be placed

When I first started playing PR I loved the fact that everyone didn't have parachutes. Far too often in vBF2 were people climbing on top of **** and then just jumping off with insta-chute. Removing them from normal ground troops was a serious leap in improving the game, and the new parachute method for pilots is even better.

But I started wondering why we didn't have at least one airborne map, using the newly-designed parachutes. They prevent people from using them to jump off buildings and **** because of their high-altitude requirements. I searched the forums for my question, only to see a ton of closed threads about it being suggested although no solid answers on the "why" it hasn't been done.

Para operations could be made possible to a certain extent, but map design would be critical in making it work. Having a pre-set DZ would not be good because it can be occupied by enemy forces who want to camp the dropping troops. Yet a mobile unit such as aircraft or helo to drop in troops would also be difficult because you would need multiple aircraft. I feel it is possible with proper map layout and planning, and I hope to design such a map layout in the coming months. I don't do mapping, but I can design a mission suitable for someone else's map.

To limit the parachute system to a specific map it would require the chutes to be pick-up only, not requestable. Planning is key, and that would take some work to get around possible drawbacks and exploits. I wouldn't rule the option out, but it's not as easy as some might think.

i really like that idea that would be awesome. but the ONLY way to get to the place you need to go should be by chopper. Like making some kind of deep canyon between the teams.(or high mountains whatev)

I actually went trough that post, but I didnt see either of them, might have missed them but still. And I were a bit in a hurry so I didnt have time to do dig deep into the forum to find the posts.

Anyway, its worth a try...

the parachute is a weapon and you could make it a 1 time use from what i see in the tweak file.

map design would be critical in making it work.
well theres your answer ;) no maps suit it yet...

although i believe someone (hfett?) has a map in the works involving just this exact scenario :)

is the WIP Huey going to be on it? But I dont think alot of this stuff will happen due to hard coding and plainly vBF2 engine.

An interesting idea for a para-map would be some map with a plane-static high in the air, and clouds. The clouds should be around or under the plane-static, and they should be moving fast. From the plane, that would look like the plane is moving, but its only the clouds. In the plane there could be the main base of the attacking team. There wouldnt be helicopters on the map or if, only the other team should have them, and the area around the plane should be a death zone for them. The defending team should have AA-guns against paratroopers that come too close to the enemy main base - the attacking team should secure a ground area, like some forest or something, and then proceed to the enemy area. The first base is not within the death zone and can be defended by the other team. THAT would be REALLY cool - but probably too much work, and maybe it wouldnt be realistic enough for PR (I've no idea about this kind of operations in real life) ^^

Just an idea i have right now - probably i'll think its stupid tomorrow
