I want to model a UH-60 blackhawk. But i need a little assistance. Where do I start? are there any free tutorials available. I am willing to put in the time but i need the knowledge first. I am struggling through GMAX, going no where quick. will someone knowledgable help?

Judging from your question, a Blackhawk is a 3D model that will be far too difficult for you to do - especially since you sound like this is the first time modelling something in 3D. I suggest looking at tutorials online for GMAX and 3D Studio MAX - they both roughly have the same interface and functions but 3DS is far more advanced and more feature packed than GMAX.

Learn what vertices, edges, faces and elements are first. Then learn to manipulate them in GMAX. Then learn how and what beveling is and extruding, then learn how to 'connect' vertices. Start off with simple model first - that's my advice. Trying to learn too fast, too son might frustrate you and make you quit rather quickly; learning to properly model in 3D takes time, patience and lots and lots of practice.

and while doing the tutorials, do it once or twice with the same gun/whatever the tutorial example is, so you can see if you've done it right... then once using the tutorial (a few days later) but a different object.

Then try without any help another day or two later and see if you can replicate your results.

Find a weapon that you <3 much, but that isnt' too intricate, and practice on that. (M40A3 is my personal fav.)
