Map idea- oilrig

I think an oilrig would be a totally different scenario. How about something like, as a storyline, insurgants have overun and taken hold of an oilrig just off the cost of iraq. Usa/brits have to take boats to base of the rig and use ropes to get up to platform, then take over and secure heli pad for the blackhawks to come in, then accomodation block, engineering workshops, drilling deck etc. To balance it, snipers could be on the coast making it real hard for insurgents to remain up top.
I think it would really make a bit of a change, as quite a bit of fighting would be indoors.
The only problem I can see is making rallypoints, as getting 100m away from a flag is going to be real hard.
Opinions?

I never played counterstrike so any similarites are purely coincidental, in fact the only fps I've ever played is bf2 and pr. Always was a tomb raider and car racing fan in the past, and never had a race on an oilrig!

I think Maitros was making a Oir rig/catwalks
A large oil paltform would be a very large serries of statics

Eh...I dunno about an oilrig map, while another aircraft carrier map, urban map,or siege map like Iron Gator,Warlord,or Night Flight would be tight!
PR Night Flight Version:USE AIRPORT,but make it to where INS. have taken it and a coalition faction must reclaim it...That'd be cool at night or day.
PR Iron Gator:Kinda the same, but with those PR touches.
PR Warlord:Well Basrah is kind of this...But I feel we need more urban maps...

I don't think an oil rig would be that realistic. Oil rigs are relatively small, and when reclaiming one conventional forces would really only used be for follow on. Conventional tactics are too slow to take one back before whoever is holding it can destroy it, so there is only one solution: 1337 SF kit for everyone!

The Sea Rigs map from Desert Combat was cool.

IIRC we have one currently in progress based on Al Basrah Oil Terminal. Will feature US troops and Insurgents I believe.

Reminds me of desert combat back in the day... That was a fun map

WRT realism, ABOT (Al Basrah Oil Terminal) was taken during D-Day H+1 I believe by US Navy SEALs reinforced by Polish Commandos. Its an enormous area that handles most of IRaq's oil exports. Is no under the security control of US Navy
WRT Counter-Strike Game MOde, yes it is real, no its not like the game

. Its kinda like Counter-Attack

=BMI=Richy wrote:well i read in the pr guide that there is going to be a game mode called counter strike, whatever it may be. if its like the awful game of the same name it could be good with pr tweaks. this map sounds good for that scenario.
here the page for that possible game mode:
http://guide.realitymod.com/index.php?t ... ter-Strike
So the guide says there will be a game mode called Counter-Strike. What do you guys think about that? I would have thought there would be much discussion about that

Please make the design like Al Khafji oil Rigs (the old DC map). That was amazing map and a ton of fun which explains why it was one of the more popular maps. The US would have a carrier and use littlebirds/blackhawks to get on the rig while the iraqis started off at the rigs but had a couple bases on the outskirs in the desert to bring in vehicles. I highly advise you to look at iit for inspiration at least because that map was very very popular.

That's not an oilrig, it's a landing point. That's why there are four ships docked against it - they're either taking on or dropping off their cargo. The two on the right are sitting much much lower in the water due to having got full loads on. The two on the left are riding empty.
Why people are so keen to run around firing weapons on a platform riddled with highly imflammable vapours, I have no idea.

I had never thought about it like that. It must be the thrill of danger from being surrounded by the equivalent of several hundred pounds of liquid TNT.

Wouldn't a PR Version of Warlord be AWESOME!
