Engineer Support

I thought I'd hate it when you guys removed the crewman wrench, now I love being engineer and as always I have some suggestions...

We've all seen the sinkable mines thread...
https://www.realitymod.com/forum/modded ... 31869.html

If we can have engineers that can have mines like that but more importantly, have the mine detector to clear minefields for armour, that'd be awwwesome :P

I was pondering whether its possible to make it so that a severly damaged tank (blown tracks etc.) would require the engineer truck for repair. This would simulate the requirement for heavier tools etc
I personally doubt an engineer with a wrench can repair shattered turret bearings or a trashed air filter (common in desert warfare) without the need for a trcuk with spare parts.

Another suggestion I have I thought deserved its own thread here >>> https://www.realitymod.com/forum/minefi ... post547126

However I believe it wouldnt be as effective without this thread coming into consideration.

Thoughts dudes?

That's some pretty sweet ideas!

I think people will look after the supply truck more if this sorta thing happened.

Playing an Engineer as my primary class (Support secondary, in terms of kit availablity, not preference) I think it's be awesome to be going down the road infront of a convoy with "Blip... Blip... Blip... BEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEP"

Engineer wrote:On this topic about mines, I'd say having a demining vehicle instead of hand held metal detector would be a better option.

However I dont know what kind of vehicles the army has for this purpose.
Someone's toyota with a scoop on the front, funneling objects into a potato sack!

Most vehicles like that are old converted tanks like the panther. Theyre fitted with Chain flail devices that involve a large drum with large heavy metal chains hanging from it positioned out far in front of the tank with the chains dangling on the ground.
Once the chain srags over a mine, it explodes, the chains spin wildly with the drum, dispersing the energy from the mine.

Modern day mine clearing tanks (like the converted panther I mentioned earlier) are usually operated by remote control so as to pose minimum risk to the operator and are used to clear mines in "peaceful" areas where landmines are a threat to civvies.
Combat tanks with mine flails tended to phase out iirc during vietnam, Old WW2 examples include the sherman crab, but the sherman had so many dam varients it also had the sherman Ice cream van and the sherman soft top convertable :P

These days those sorta tanks would be surplus to requirement, I would think an engineer squad could be quicker in clearing a minefield than the effort needed to fuel, transport and deploy an RC tank.

i agree with this suggestion, plus i can add one more. remove the rifle kit from the engineer class. this will stop dweebs from taking the jeep as their own transport without playing as engineer.

ive seen an engineer take an engys jeep only to abandon it on a broken bridge and swim across. twat!

I give your suggestions a big thumbs up because i enjoy playing engineer and wish there was more to it. I think the same should go for aircraft too because they should take a lot longer to refill the missiles and stuff at the pad. Having to have engi support would be kinda annoying but im sure some people would be happy to do it. On Kashan i sometimes just get in the support HMMWV and help repair and rearm A-10s so they can get back to the fight quicker.

Soulja DUDE! never even thought of that, engineer truck and engineer to reload missles on a jet YES!!!!

No more will pilots be physically able to fly on their own and ignore the team, theyll have to rely on teammates for ammo, as teammates will rely of aircraft for airstrikes.

I would be so stoked to be the engineer support with all these sorta jobs to do :P it would also make the home base more like a base, with engineers re arming jets etc.

Make a thread for that Soulja before I do :P

I have another thought I might post another thread for it, (but I dont mind anyone hijacking it)
How about having the CO's satillite map restricted to operation inside bunkers and the main base, that would more realistically reflect the systems in place.

Imagine spawning at base to see a specialist Ammo truck for the jets, speeding over to the runway, the CO inside the command post checking the satillite imagery of his squads...

Uberness :P
