Realistic Compass

Now I made a post about realistic maps https://www.realitymod.com/forum/real-maps-t32017.html

Got me thinking can the minimap be replaced with a more realistic compass?

What im thinking of is a compass takes some time to stabilise before you get your bearings for where you're facing accurately.
It would be good if the Devs perhaps choose to include realistic maps (working with Clypp to make a few more test models to see how they go) and have it so that the players location isnt visible on the map. Adding a compass which swings and sways as you spin and turn, remember real compasses need time to settle down.

This would be a cool effect as the squad is sticking together so they dont get lost and the SL will kneel down for a few seconds as the compass settles in and he figures his location on the map.

Anyone know what Im talking about here? dont mention digital compasses

Jesus Cain ! you on the wacky baccy again ?

I think a small compass near/inplace of the minimap could help with pointing out the enemy e.g Enemy Officer - hilltop west

Instead of opening your minimap, looking for your position, looking west of your position, closing map etc. you could spin round to face west, and scan the hill tops ...

My 2 pence :D

well thats what i mean to avoid... we have a compass at the moment.

The problem is you can spin and itll stay fixed on the direction even if youre running. IRL the compass needle is in fluid and needs to be settled horizontally so it can swing around to north.

This way you can travel and calmly check the compass to see what direction you need to travel, however if you arent looking at landmarks to figure out your bearings, then when you come under fiire you wont know the enemies heading, and youll be spinning and running so you wont be able to sit still long enough to see the compass settle.

Probably best to think about this sorta thing for a later release :P already suggested realistic style maps (https://www.realitymod.com/forum/real-maps-t32017.html)

I believe gradually integrating realistic navigation will be key to providing that tense feeling when in hostile territory and will also encourage squads to stick together
