Team player but cant seem to find any good squad leaders

As you probably guessed I'm new to PR and BF2...I saw some videos of the importance of team play and said wow this might be good! I have been in a very team focused and realistic SOP modern flight simulation for about four years now.

I usually hop a server looking to get in a squad with good team play but it seems 95% of the time i end up on a squad of Rambos. I'm not looking to play a FPS. I'm looking for a team (squad sim) infantry sim. Any suggestions would be great.

Also, I'm why behind the curve on this game any suggestions to speed up the learning.

Thanks!

Your general location? USA? Europe? Asia? etc.

USA: Try Tactical Gamer - hit and miss sometimes because they force folks to join squads within 95 seconds or get kicked. So some don't have much of a choice and have to start a squad, clueless :)

Europe: Thors Brigade or IGI are good places to start

Anybody else have any suggestions?

On that note, since this mod is of BF2 - a correct and accurate sim of infantry life is of the table. On the other hand, the community will give you a good run for your money. What the game is lacking, it will be made up by the gamers themselves. Have some patience, try out different servers and try to join in later in the evening.

(but not to late, read the disclaimer at the bottom)

People I would recommend

Strktm is great if you can get in the squad

iGi has some good players on voip

danthemanbuddy leads occasionally ;)

Learning wise lets see..
First off is get your settings down, don't want to lag to death or not have voip

Second off is knowing your role - if your a medic for 5 other men don't try and run off in point unless your getting outnumbered...

When you get a good SL try to stick to what your squad is based around ( CO support, infantry, mech inf, HAT inf, armor, air support etc )

Don't spawn spec ops as a base kit if your requesting limited kits, I've heard you don't get body armor on those limited kits after spawning spec ops.

Kniviving rally points is silent, but you can shoot them as well from a far

Keep an engineer and multiple crewman on your armor whenever possible

Try to use smoke effectively and not blind your team.. same with flashes

Don't take a kit you know your going to be poor with... like HAT or sniper when your totally new to it..

Click to heal - lol

Use laser guided bombs on bombers, don't try and bomb with fighter jets ( not enough arms, only short range missiles / LIMITED cannon ammo )

High alt. with attack chopper and TV guided missiles is a good strat when in them..

Remember in jungles slowing down can give you the advantage... such as crouching by a bush and checking your surroundings instead of sprinting until you take fire.

Remember to limit voice coms when trying to be silent "frag out" "follow me" "enemy spotted" ETC

Good servers to play on for the states that I like are DVB & TG

battlearena can get messy if no admins are on

Read the guide about insurgency too much to cover here ;)

Remember on tops of hills you got the old BF2 terrain thing where you "hover" above the hill...

Know what is concealment and what is cover

30 second warmup times on aircraft - and sabot loading time on tanks

Remember you can rearm your field dressings off any ammo source - and rifleman ammo is very very limited

wait 30 seconds before firing HAT, check when scope is up, avoid firing indoors and near corners/poles due to risk of suicide

Remember to load up heat "2" on armor when firing at infantry with APCs / Tanks, don't use sabot on infantry it is very innefective and must be a direct hit

Remember there is small bullet drop on coax, larger on marksman, and the least imo on sniper/rifleman

2C4 or 4 slams ( rearming off opfor bunker ) will destroy it
Sandbags / razor can be blown up as well

Hold shovel when digging..

Thats about all the pointers I can think of that might of threw me for a loop at one time, hope it helps..

Besides giving up all your worldly possessions to charity and laying arse up on the battlefield, it is merely going to take time till you realise who the PLAYERS are (yes, that's right, capitals stand for something)

Tips on being in a good squad.

1. Click on the squad title. All members should go white on the map. Try to join the squad where members are the tightest.

2. When you join, say hello, and ask if the SL has a kit preference, what is the plan, etc. Not only does this help you get into it faster, it also lets you know if they are using VOIP. If you don't like what you see, try a different squad after a few minutes or make your own.

3. Stick around for a while. With time you will recognize players and remember the great squad leaders.

4. Be a squad leader. It's not that hard, just make sure you issue orders regularly, call members by their names (gets their attention) and do not be afraid to kick uncooperative players.

The lack of good squad leaders is a curse from vBF2 in that they dont care for squad success and act more like a mobile spawn point than anything else. Just like Clypp said, highlight the squad of interest and check if they are together or are in a position where they can support each other. You generally want to stay away from multi-tasking squads where every member is doing completely separate things. Whomever I am quoting, just play more often and you will recognize the good SL when you see them. Also be patient the 0.7 release will surface the capable squad leaders as I am hearing that they are taking the SL spawn. Nothing but good news for 0.7 so far Thx devs I would pay you but nah youll be alright without it. lol

If you have xfire, then you can add me if you want and when I am on, I am always squadleader and like to lead good squads with some other guys I know or even random guys or noobs.

Either you need to know people you play with before you head on or you can try and get lucky.
Sometimes you get in a good squad and often not. You could always try starting your own and kicking the unresponsive players

TG often has random open squads you can join that will use voip at least if not some tactics ! Image

THere are a lot of unknown parts of Insurgency, like the pickup maps that can be found revealing a cache. All of these have been put into a great video made by Maistros about Insurgency.

Naah but really, unfortunately a lot of people dont read the Manual. Not much we can do although maybe we could look into making the manual appear as you install like on the install client?

If you see an SL with a tag infront of his name, they're usualy good squad leaders, unless they're vBF2 noob clan.

Yeah i'd say join a squad with a respectable clan member leading it. They tend to know what they're doing. Look for iGi, SOE, Hx and then all the server owners like thorsbrigade (can't remember tag) or tactical gamer. Of course don't forget the EEF. If you still can't find a good squad leader, make your own squad, get some practice in and soon it maybe that we recommend joining your squad to the new guys around here...

Good SL's still need good squadmembers, it's always nice if there's more than one doing the thinking. Sometimes it takes a while for a squad to get worked in just keep communicating and you'll find that most of the players will want to work together.
