Starting a new Map! Basic ideas...

So, my grandfather has been living with us for the better part of the month now while my grandmother heals in the hospital after some major work. So ive been forced to sleep on this horrible air bed and insomnia has set in. So tonight i have started work on a desert urban map and ive started out with the map breifing and basic layout. The Map breifing is has follows.

Map Name: Hanford
Location: Hanford Uranium Enrichment Plant, Hanford, WA.
Factions: USA(Washington National Gaurd ;) vs. Insurgents (Alternate PLA Airborne)

Last night the Hanford Nuclear facility outside of Hanford, Washington was attacked by a large force of well armed insurgent forces, the strike was fast and well organized. Site security was taken out without a fight and civilian workers have been killed or taken prisoner. We believe the Insurgents are after the nuclear waste material currently being stored at the location to manufacture dirty bombs. Washington National Gaurd and Mechanized Army units training at the Yakima training grounds have been pressed into service has a fast response team. It is grucial that the insurgency be stopped at all costs.

The map will contain the hanford reservation itself, and some of the outlaying desert terrain. It will be mostly an infantry map with the majority of the action taking place directly in the reservation.

I like this. With all the combined arms battles going on over huge distances a heavily urban map in an industrial setting would be a breath of fresh air.

You will probably need new skins for the insurgents - EG western style clothes.

Post some screenies when you can, sounds good!

Yea a close in urban map, with the realism of this mod would be awsome. Personaly i'm not too keen on the 17km square maps that seem to be in vogue at the moment, there just arn't enough players on a 64 person server to make the game play enjoyable. I hope some other mappers get in on the act.

Not as bad as the Far cry 2 50km square maps ^^

nice map idea, but IMO it should be rebels since insurgents wouldn't normally be organised enough to pull off that kind of attack

Wow, nice!!
I'm happy to finally see a map on US ground!!!! :D

I can't wait to play this in summer, but hey, I recommend US Army vs PLA, because insurgents are Iraqi insurgents and not terrorists. PLA-A is a better choice because it's a conventional army (=large scale warfare) and that the BF2 ''storyline'' has them strike USA (Alaska) ..

and please, DON'T TELL ME IT'S UNREALISTIC.. I KNOW!!!

They are Middle-Eastern terrorists.

Insurgents, people in a village that are sick of seeing our soldiers in their villages and take arms to chase them from their villages, not super soldiers taking the plane with they AK and making a full assault on a nuclear facility... PLA would be better

Good Idea, But we dont have a North American theater yet. We do have the similar Asian theatre however.

the Devs have already made it clear that they will not be including a European or American theater, so i doubt this will be in PR

sorry guys

however, if it was tweaked.....

What about Us Army protecting a power plant in Iraq/Afghanistan with the insurgents trying to destroy/capture it for some reason ? That or PLA protecting a power plant in china while the us army want it

That would work but maybe make the fuel station just south-east of Basrah and make a new Iraqi Army vs Inrsgernts

Thread moved to Community Modding. And as said before, if you want this a possible PR map, then you're best off changing the whole WA location to something with actual statics for it. Unless of course you make a ton of US/Western Europe statics, and even then, I cant say anything for the DEV's.

Go for it, sounds like fun, but youre statics will be limited for your location(US) and it wont really be a location PR is looking for maps in. :)

Good luck!

What are these Insurgents? I though we were fighting those damned Commies still! *Sarcasm off*

You do know this map will be fairly hard to pull off, am I not correct? To fit the area of which you speak you would probably have to make new skins for the Insurgents / Militia or you could go for what others are saying and use the PLA Airborne troops, and you would also need to make new statics to fit the area as well, unless you plan on fighting in Downtown Seattle's "Chinatown-esque" area which I highly doubt you are.

Albeit, if you can somehow throw these resources together I say go for it. Fighting on my own country's soil in a World in Conflict type scenario would be loads of fun to me.
