A FAC/JTAC kit has been suggested before, Jonny. :)

ZOMG! This reminds me of C&C generals. As commander you could pick which "general" you want to go as. Each general has his own specialty. But in all seriousness, why would the leader of the team go and risk his neck to go and sneak up on enemy positions to lase it? Shouldn't the FAC be more concerned with air assets instead of building fortifications?

i like the idea though i think the lgm should be deployable by a special radio kit. the guy with the radio kit should also be the only one able to request airstrikes and so on. This kit will be like a rifleman but with soflam and the ability to request the above mentioned stuff. The radio kit operator would not be able to request supplies or bunkers etc.

Big whopping JDAM isn't enough?

I wouldn't mind seeing this tested, but it seems redundant with the JDAM. Also, not a big fan of the commander kit idea. But that's a detail, it could be worked out some way or another for balance's sake.

No - he just would say "Please bomb here" and a player would come and do it. Not a bot-missile. And there isn't a reload time, just an LGM battery that can be recharged by support (and defibs can too - he should drop batteries)

well i like this idea, but i think it would be better to just have the bomb droped from a player controlled f16 and have a soflam guide it to the target.

That's what a Forward Air Controller (FAC) / Joint Terminal Attack Controller JTAC) is, Markonymous. :)

Yea to FAC kits

I totally agree, we need a FAC kit.

It should consist of:
Radio
SOFLAM
Assault rifle with GL and smoke shells
Night vision
Pistol
Coloured smoke
IR strobe

Limitation
One FAC kit available when >16 players on team
FAC can talk to all air on command net

Method of control:
Commander request fire support at a specific point
FAC calls for air on radio
Air takes 5 minutes to get on station
After 5 minutes FAC must have SOFLAM on target and bomb goes in

Alternative control:
Player flown A/C delivers bomb <100m from target
FAC guides in with SOFLAM

Why add a new and complicated class to do something that can already be done?

Also I'm pretty sure it is impossible to guide a weapon you did not initiate the launch of.

well you can do it you just cant use lptargetcomp to do it, so as i have been learning how to mod i wanted to make the soflam guide bombs and that has kinda been my goal so i have been working on that. so here is how, the simrad shoots 200 rounds/min, it shoots the projectile at 10000m/sec or what every the engine will allow, then every time the bullet hits something it has a endeffect so i attached a lasertarget to that, so you can guide bombs pretty much like it should be.

From what i've read in the 0.7 manual, the SOFLAM will be used as a designator and a jet will be able to lock onto the point where you aim that SOFLAM

Its a little vague, but I think the jet drops a bomb within some range of the SOFLAM designation and the bomb then guides itself in.

Sweet stuff.

The CO is the FAC, unless he gives the kit to someone else.

What is the radio going to do? Look nice?
VOIP is hardcoded.
No UGL.
No nightvision.
What does the IR strobe do when there is no IR targeting system?
Next time think it through before posting things that cant be done and would not make sense.
Well, dude

As a FAC you will have to spend some time on the radio getting hold of air. Thus the radio will have to be worked for a given amount of time before the team will be allocated air, and in this timespan FAC will not be able to use small arms.

I have had a grenade launcher with smoke in PR earlier.

In BF2 Spec Ops you have NV so obviously it is possible.

IR strobe would be used for night CAS supported by AH, for instance:
"From strobe N 200m square building, your target."

And I totally agree with thinking suggestions through before posting them iaw the sticky on "PR Suggestions and feedback" and I am quite sure it does not benefit PR as a whole to shoot down any new suggestions, especially when people who do this stuff for a living is trying to contribute.
