Additional Game Modes

With the upcoming 0.7 release, we see a new Counter-Strike game mode added, which from the first glance doesn't seem to be anything other than a larger version of "Seven Gates" atm?

But one thing I'd love to see is MORE game modes with REAL variety; perhaps based upon the map, rather than the server config so that everyone gets a real taste of different missions.

Some examples:

SEARCH & RESCUE

Much like 'Hunted' from Team Fortress Classic, one player opts to play the downed pilot on the opposite side of the map, the enemy is moving in to kill any survivors of the crash, whilst friendlies push forward to escort the pilot to safety.

RETRIEVE

Following an ambush, a convoy carrying warheads has been abandonned in the middle of a city; the coalition is to reach the convoy before the enemy and somehow disarm the warheads on site; the enemy on the other hand has to take the vehicles back, and drive them to a safe point to win.

VIP ESCORT

This mode was brilliant! I'd like to see it back, though I understand y'all couldn't figure out how to make checkpoints actually work, hence it's removal. Any sign of life in future?

The mode is a vehicle convoy of a VIP to pass through a number of checkpoints before reaching home.

This can be played out in a variety of ways;

1.) VIP civilian escort; on foot, or in vehicles.
2.) Asset Escort; escorting a tank from its bogged down position through a 'gauntlet' of enemies back to main base.

OBJECTIVE BASED

Maps involving the detonation/defense of certain connected objectives;

Blow up connecting power supplies
Destroy a nuke launch console
Destroy the launch pad

etc etc.

The posibilities are endless, but I'm no modder, and so you guys will know the limitations of the engine better than me!

What other ideas can you guys think of?

The problem is getting any of these to work inside of the BF2 framework. I don't know how well BF2 supports anything other than a flag capping system, but given the VIP mode issues I would say not too well.

The pilot SEARCH & RESCUE could be a tug of war;

Without expanding too much; both friendies, AND enemy forces are to escort the pilot back to base for rescue/execution (respectively). If the pilot dies of natural causes, the round is a draw.

I dunno how you'd enforce the pilot to come with you after an ambush on coalition forces - If shooting the pilot made you lose the round (Because you have to get to base with him), then there's nothing to stop the pilot sprinting away on his own without escort.

Of course, if you're able to shoot him, nothing will stop morons from killing the pilot before reaching the objective; and a pilot can use this to his advantage to not go with the enemy = /

Should have the pilot tied to the forks of a forklift, and just make the teams drive it.

I'm sure in insurgency there will be lots of "rescues" of tanks and warriors lost in the field that are getting TOASTED and need an engineer to get treads up and return to base!
