I was doing some research on a few things and happened upon this recent post about getting TRUE widescreen out of BF2 and it working with PB. Amazing news for use widescreen guys. Seems to not be "New", hopefully I'm not the last guy finally realising this lol.
Make sure you scroll down on the webpage to see the screenshots and the increased field of view using the program. Very nice.
Also, use the 1.32 version as I think it's the best supported. Note the Punkbuster notes as well.

LOL. I only just tried this fix a few minutes ago. LET THE OWNAGE BEGIN!

. Actually, with this fix I get a wider FOV which makes me able to see attacks from the side better, but at the expense of depth, which makes me able to see distant things easier. Luckily I can change between the two on the fly

Its been around quite a while now. I recommend it if you got problem seeing stuff on your widescreen as I am sure you do. Also suggest that you use the proper ratio for you screen size so you dont sacrifice too much depth for the larger FoV. Although I do like to crank it up in choppers to somewhere like 16:9 and suddenly it doesnt seem so cramped. Keep this a secret but you can use scoped weapons really well in CQB with this trick. You gotta bring the sights up then you toggle the fix. When the fix is activated the sights zoom will go back to 1x, like you were looking out normally. Used to use it all the time because the USMC rifleman M16 was absolutely useless in CQB.

Dont forget to activated the fix by using its hot key. Sometimes the auto activation doesnt work with some folks so toggle it. Hotkeys are: Numpad * (v1.00 to v1.06), Right Control (v1.10), or ; (Semi-Colon) (v1.10.1 to v1.39.6). For proper screen ratios first find you screen natural resolution then match your ratio to resolution
* 640x480 = 4:3
* 720x480 = 15:10
* 720x576 = 5:4
* 800x600 = 4:3
* 848x480 = 16:9
* 960x600 = 16:10
* 1024x768 = 4:3
* 1152x864 = 4:3
* 1280x720 = 16:9
* 1280x768 = 15:9
* 1280x800 = 16:10
* 1280x960 = 4:3
* 1280x1024 = 5:4
* 1360x768 = 16:9
* 1440x900 = 16:10
* 1680x1050 = 16:10
* 1920x1080 = 16:9
* 1920x1200 = 16:10
If you have any other problems PM me.

Yea that sucks but you can still use the other ratios but youll sacrifice the depth of the screen. I tried to create a custom ratio but i didnt go too well last time. I quess ill give it another shot. Just for you
Edit: I forgot to add that what you can do is use a higher resolution from BF2 and then compensate by using the fix. You'll have to test different sets to get it right but it could work. For example I have a natural res of 1280x1024 but in BF2 res is 2000x1600 with a 16:9 ratio and it looks great with just the right amount of visual immersion.

I have no idea why, but PR refuses to start up with custom resolution.
Tried all possible combinations.
I run XPx64, and got Samsung 226bw and Asus 6600GT.
...help please?

I have that monitor. Do you have this in the "target:" window of your PR shortcut?
"C:\Program Files\EA GAMES\Battlefield 2\BF2.exe" +modPath mods/pr +menu 1 +widescreen 1 +szx 1680 +szy 1050
