Stop! That floating red skull'n'bones tells us there be danger!

I've checked the suggestion thread; this doesn't appear to have cropped up.
Following the removal of move/attack/defend smoke beacons, why does the "friendly mine here" icon still exist?
Two basis:
1.) Unrealistic ( Duuh

)
2.) You should avoid ALL mines anyway!
Perhaps it still exists incase they're placed in thick undergrowth; and to stop friendlies from removing EVERY mine they see?
Just a thought.

Otherwise your teammates would run them over every minute... lol

Aye, but is this not true for enemy landmines? I spot them easily enough whilst driving!
Regardless; I guess in a battle between reality and idiot-proof, we have to go for the latter
Thanks Bosco; can remove now ;P

I have no issue spotting mines whatsoever. Friendly or not, I just see them most of the times.
Unfortunately, I'm one of the few. If they are able to drive over a MARKED mine, can you imagine the situation with UNMARKED mines ?

My team mates seem to run over them rather a lot even with the red flags.I'm thinking of giving up on being engineer in case i get kicked for team killing idiots.Blind and deaf idiots.
So the floating skull and crossbones just means "one of your team mates is gonna die here".
I guess it's that vanilla influence coming through.

Today I told my squad over voip where I was going to place a mine, then my SL decided to go get a landie from nearby and ran over it! He did apologise, but it goes to show that even with a big Mario Powerup symbol over the things and verbally telling people where mines are, they will still run over them!
Earlier in same round I typed in teamchat I was placing a mine elsewhere, in the middle of a straight, wide road and someone still ran over it!
People are only human!

First off, hello MrD master of explosives
Second of all, I bet most people turn off their 3d maps ( Not me

)
So that leads to this hitting the mine deal
As of now mines are ... well mines, but its much harder to place and *keep* them there, I wish they would stick for the round and not disappear to simulate mines left in a combat zone / dangerous area....
I'm fine with the skull/crossbones, I'm just off tangent thinking about more mines being used appropriately

One suggestion might be to remove the penalty for TKing a friendly with mines. I know sometimes they're placed in very hidden positions and are hard to spot even with the red icon. I doubt it'd be an issue with tards intentionally mining friendly vehicles.
Another issue, is that there does seem to be a bug that causes some clients to not see friendly mines part of the time. For example, I was playing on fools road, and a friendly mine was placed at the entrance of the Helicoptor base. I drove around the corner to check for enemy infantry etc. and came back 5 mins later. There wasn't an icon so I drove in and exploded and a teamate got the credit for the Team Kill.

After so much time after BF2's release, the note in the manual, and the experience of blowing up, most players still want that easy "stairway to heaven" that is marked by the red skull and crossbones. It puzzles me if most people actually learned their lesson.
Maybe a 30 minute punishment delay at the start of the round?
