small JDAM suggestion

when a jdam drops very close to you but not close enough to kill you, the blast wave and sound should really disorient the hell out of you. the first time i played on qinling me and a squadmate wanted to see what a jdam looked like in game so we dropped it basically right next to us. it was wayy closer than we had expected but it didnt effect us in any way. so i was wondering, is it possible to add the disorientation effect {the one you get when you are almost dead or maybe the flashbang effect} to any infantry that is within a certain radius of the blast zone? maybe a high pitched ringing sound simulating a temporary loss of hearing as well? that way, if you bomb an area and there are some infantry that were just outside the kill zone they will still be too disoriented to fight effectively. after all its a 2000lb bomb, it should rock someones world for quite a distance. thanks.

JDAM from what I've seen is more bark than bite. It's impressive looking but the effects are so much less than you think they would be. Damage does not scale to multi level objects either. VBF2 commander artillery was more effective in taking out infantry and vehicles. JDAM is on par with a big laser guided missle. Having more JDAMs that are 500lb more frequently would be much much more useful IMO. The one 2000lb JDAM doesn't work effectively enough with the very long recharge time. Give us four 500lb JDAMs for a quarter of the recharge time and it would be more useful.

not a bad idea imo.

There should definetly be a disorienting affect too, should be possible to do I think...

maybe some "flashbang" effect too.

or even have an actual plane physically drop the thing like in COD4's airstrikes

Some effects to simulate the blast would be good, nothing too big for a 500lb or 1000lb but the blast you feel from a 2000lb is immense, i think anyone within a km of the blast should get some kind of quick blur. Even the engineers explosives should really disorientate. I can recal when we were in one compound and the engineers barmined a compound next door and we didnt know, when it went off half the section knocked off feet and with all the dust, the ears ringing and everything going blurry it really is something amazing, the game needs to simulate that a large, powerful explosion going off near you is going to be felt by your body...

Hell yes, the JDAM needs some fine-tuning.

On a complete side-note and offtopic one at that - TC, you're in the Anglians? My local regiment, or used to be anyways. Was raised in Naaaaarfolk lol.

So to run down what people what

More effective JDAM, even if in hard cover then if you are in centre of blast you should be killed

Either beef up the current JDAM or make it recharge quicker...

More visual distortion, you really do feel explosions IRL, More dust which lingers for longer. The same goes for Engineers explosives. If you barmine into a compound when you move in there should be some dust lingering. Also this could apply for grenades as in Afghan compounds you sometimes had to be carefful, if you grenade the room there will be dust in there for ages, leaving it a bit diffuclt to clear it properly.

Another thing i would like to see is more flying debris, when a 2000lb was dropped on Taliban HQ when i first got to Now Zad, a couple of large chunks of shrapenal landed in camp. We were over a Km away from Taliban HQ!

This is what ide like to see,

I have to say, I was JDAM'd for the first time last night, and it just wasn't all that impressive.

More deadly, DEVs! Louder as well - Didn't hear a thing. And more effects! ;)

Still off-topic...

We're faaarrrrmers for now, but we're just planning for 2050. By then the entire east anglian region will be awash thanks to no-more-icecaps thing, so we'll have to abandon farming and branch out into something more boat-related. Piracy is looking good.

And boy, that was a CLOSE miss in that video... jeeze, don't those pilots know anything? What were they doing, let that rubble get so close to friendlies? (*grin* </sarcasm>). Joking aside... wow. Want that for the next JDAM effect!

Sorry to bump this thread, but I didn't want to start a new thread for this, as this one is pretty much how I see it as well.

We threw another JDAM on Temple (Qwai) a few nights ago. The smoke effects and stuff was excellent, yet not much happened. If I see this video (YouTube - Taliban stronghold gets J-Damed), I think its power should be way higher? With a "flash" and much louder as well. You should hear a JDAM all over the map (not everywhere as loud of course ;) ), if you ask me. I mean, look at the size of that thing, wooooow, you just HAVE to hear that everywhere :P .

Then, I haven't seen one in real life and don't know much about it... :o

Yes you'd hear one from miles away easily.

There's an army range about a mile away from me and you can hear when they're shooting, a 2000lb bomb would be ridiculous.

Here's a suggestion one of my clan mates and I had a lol about: If it hits in a flag radius, make the flag instantly neutralized.

is there anyway to make it so that when a jdam is dropped, for a split second it makes a "dead zone", the same as the dead zones on a map, that destroys everything in a given radius. but instead of a slow drain to your health like in the current deadzones, the deadzone that jdam makes is like instant kill. it would effect everything in a certain radius, and it wouldnt matter whether its infantry, vehicles, buildings, wouldnt matter if you were on the top floor of a building, it would destroy everything. like this professionally drawn visual aid shows:
Image
like i said, the "death zone" would only last a split second. think of it like when you go out of bounds on a bf2 map, and instead of you having time to run out it damages you so heavily that you die instantly.

I fully agree with what's being said here.
But I would also like to see a point from the explosion radius where you at least have a chance of survival
Also- it is possible to sort out the effect when it hits an object projecting above the terrain?

The smoke effect goes horizontal so that it looks rather odd. Or is that realistic?
