Land Rover question

OK,

I know the British WMIK is to appear in PR, but was wondering if there were to be any variations of Land Rovers? I am not sure if there's pkans for this, but I would also love to see a few Snatch wagons in there too. Anyone who's served in Iraq or Northern Ireland will have fond memories of these :D

I would give my left *** cheek to buy one of those. Forget HUMVEE's, those LR's are a much better vehicle for civilian use as a durable off road vehicle.

Does the British Army have surplus auctions like the US Military does?

yer they do, but can be hard to come by. best bet is to find your nearest specialised Army surplus vehicle dealer. I think you can still get some surplus Challenger 1's now, as well as the chieftan etc etc.

As for the variation on land rovers, ask and you will recieve! Any specific variations you want? Snatch and ambulance are what I would push for. how about a land rover pink panther? Now that would be great!

I would love to see the snatches and also the WMIKs in Project Reality. That's a Land Rover 110 'Weapons Mounting Instalation Kit' before someone asks what it is :D

Unless you guys are planning something of use for an ambulance variation, then it wouldn't really appeal to me personally. However, I am but one in the PR community ;)

ps) That's my Battalion's WMIK in the pic above :) The RIR's logo is the three leaf clover on our vehicles. I have seen this picture used extensively on different sites etc.

We have discussed the use of the L/R amby varient and the Snatch 2, I have uploaded all the pictures - fresh from Iraq on the ftp site we use - so things are all "in hand" guys.

That's a distinct possibility.

BTW, why is it called the Snatch version? Because it was used for personnel capture raids in NI? Because in the states a "Snatch Wagon" means something completely different. :)

It was during Op Telic 1, at the Gosps in the Rumyala Oilfields :)

I know I spelt the place wrong :(

LOL Eddie. Believe me, there isn't enough room for THAT!

It was originally used in Northern Ireland by the Army to carry 'snatch' teams who grabbed local players and arrest em.

Yeah your right - they where originally used in NI - during riot control - there would be a line of Brit soldiers, helmets shields etc etc, and they would have a "snatch" party - who would open the shields "snatch" a rioter - and throw him in the "wagon".

Gaz - are you with the TA then? We had a few NI guys attached to us (Regulars) on our last telic tour, all QOY, or the old "Black Horse" I think, had 5 of them in our J2 Cell and CIMIC

Okay, I figured something like that had to do with the origin of the name. :)

That's not quite what the term means here. It means a vehicle that can help you get to that point, if you catch my drift, rather than one you can "do it" in. :)

What do you refer to when you say 'Snatch?'
