Civilians

I was reading another post where someone talked about the Marines making sure they knew their targets and it made me think, what if there were NPC Civilians in the Cities that could be killed by either team where the killer would lose points just like with a TK or TD? Would that even be possible and if so it would stop alot of the random crazy drivers and pointless gunfire when few people are around and someone is just unloading in a general direction w/o an identified target.

What your talking about requires a ton of modeling and an absolute **** load of codeing, definetly not worth the time and effort. It they would also probably count against the player numbers in the server.

would be good if we could reinstae spectators it would give them something to do like run a market stall/drive a civilian car
killing civies should have a huge penalty like take half your score

Or your player would spend 2 years in jail awaiting trial.
Para Reg or RRF anyone?

Sounds like a BF2 expansion to me!
Personally I'd like to see an ingame camera guy instead. Someone with a big camera on their shoulder you arent supposed to shoot, that can follow you around and film your various actions from a 1st person point of view.
Although chances are pretty high he'll get killed every second, lol!

cameramen/ non combatant players would be AMAZING addition!
ahh reminds me of good ol flashpoint
except in flashpoint you have the option, if you happen to find a dead soldiers corpse... you may stow his sidearm for later use

In real life, the civilians would hide in buildings, if the area were declared a demilitarised zone, right? If so, we wouldn't have a bustling city market with hundreds of NPC's, maybe just a few hiding in alleys, inside buildings and in other places where people would hide. They wouldn't move much, but the odd civilian running through an alley would be quite realistic in my opinion. Also, maybe the defending force should have more points deducted for their rules of engagement.
All in all, I think it's not a very viable feature, and although cool, may not happen.

They might be out in the market place shopping for food. Especially in cases where one nation doesn't know where their own troops are and is constantly making things up to appear in control. I'm sure we all remember the infamous "no Americans in Baghdad" speach where tanks could be heard in the background.
I don't see it going into many games in the near future though. BF2 by default takes up a lot of resources. Multiple NPC's with AI will eat up a lot of computing cycles and slow the game to a crawl.

Yes, this is not something I would really appreciate. Mostly because of the ammounts of lag I would get.
