[Question] Terragen and L3DT?

Well i finally thought i would try and make big map after i made a few small once (512 size) i really thought i had it somewhat under control but guess again i already get a BIG problem when trying to make the terrain in a new size.
So my problem is that none of the terrains I've made fit into the editor terragen just says its the wrong size file tried every size nothing helps then i found L3DT which seemed like an easier program, but when i import the .RAW and open it up in the editor it splits the terrain up in sort of like holes, ripples and you can look straight through the map so ofc you can't paint on it
What i apparently don't grasp is how the size between Terregen and L3DT works relative to the bf2 editor.
Hopefully someone can give me some pointers
Chubben...
Edit: Btw i am making an insurgency map based in Afghanistan. the size should be 4x4, and the plot so to speak is to find caches in up to 5-6 small villages. All the villages will consist mostly of destructible buildings and hopefully i will be able to make small caves around them, something i haven't been working on so far.

You will find alot of help here:
http://bfeditor.org/forums/index.php?sh ... l3dt+video
There is a link to a great video in the second post that tells you everything that you need to know about getting L3DT terrain, colour maps, detail maps as well as under and overgrowth into the bfeditor.

will you nubs learn that "modding tutorials" is for tutorials, and not for questions? moved into the correct place...
if its your first map dont even think about using L3DT or Terrgen, it will only make it harder for you...

Per say its not my first map, but it is the first map i want to complete, the other maps I've done has been only to try stuff out and learn how you do the different things in the editor.

you have to learn alot of how BF2 maps work before going into L3DT if i where you, can do it if you like but I would never generate a terrain via L3DT or anything, I only use it as a more advaanced BF2tpaint.

Rhino (or someone else), would you enlight a bit of tricks to make 1024 pix scale 4 maps with L3dt? I'm trying to desing a big map all from scratch without any previous experience (idea is pretty good I can sure). As it turned out map was all flat and I couldn't find any solution from tutorials and forums. Smaller maps came out as they supposed to be.
Valuable information for start would be right settings for 4x4 km L3dt map, and ofcourse anything else that should be considered.

Follow the video in that thread. I did and had no problems (first time using L3DT, quite inexperienced with the BF2editor)

I guess you are meaning this:
L3dt Video Tutorial - Official BF Editor Forums
I'm trying to do everything like it is guided but still 1024 scale map is turned out all flat in BF2 Editor. I can still see the shape of map but it is vertically scaled like over 10 times smaller.
Original map is in L3dt as 2048 resolution (don't remember scale of it) and I'm resizing it 1024 scale 4, adjusting for vertically right dimension and exporting it as 1025 pix HeightMap. Am I missing something here and taking wrong path somewhere?

In the BF2Editor, in the tweak section there should be an option that says something like VerticalScale. Change it to a bigger number. I think that might be it.

Well after using L3DT alot of hours now i have really come to like it and all its features, but as always there comes a point where you get fu**ed.
So after creating the map in L3DT and exporting all the files, i need to Tsplit the colormap and the detail in bf2-tsplit, for some reason the detailmap gives me an "error: render detailm.tga" but the colormap works fine in Tsplit, very starnge.
Has anybody else had the same error message ?? (have been at bf2 editor forum no clear answer)

I have had no problem at all with HeightmapPrimary.raw what so ever works smooth when imorted into the editor
