Why people should read chat

I was just wondering if anyone reads the chat, since I think they should. I've noticed a lot of people ignore/don't respond to chat messages. I meant not everyone has mics and sometimes Mics wont work. I know in the heat of battle you might not be looking at the chat all the time butin general situations and or squad I don't see why not. The team chat can be used to alert other squads to things or talk to a specific personthat you might that you can't with VOIp. I know you might say use teamspeak but not everyone has that, and even sometimes with TS texting might be more clear.
Also I think someone who joins your squad without a mic as long as they follow orders and make a effort to communicate with squad chat is a good thing. Responding to them over the mic or texting back I think is a good way to do things.
For these reasons I believe people should pay attention to caht more. And you might say "buy a mic or don't play the game" well thats definatley something that helps but I mean come on theres nothing majorly wrong with text chat for those who need to do it. Also very good for inter squad communication, which isn't easily done with TS unless your whole team is on the same TS server but thats not likely.

yes i agree too. but usually the chat is for unimportant "chatting" irrevelant to the game, and i use it sometimes because i feel its more secure. who knows if people can understand what im saying

Even the commander should look at the chat, personnaly, I think its always a great help to me when talking to the guy whos driving and not in my squad.
Its also a source of fun, sometimes you get amusing conversations

Honestly, I ignore it most of the time since it seems that over 80% of it is useless trash talk.

I never read chat.
I'm too busy looking at what's in front of me.

Personally, I wish I could change the color of the chat messages to some florescent color so I can actually read important team messages.

yes, today with hardly anyone using chat I typed
"A10 please stop firing at friendly troops at South Bunker"
then :
"A10 why did you attack us again?"
Was pretty easy to notice, guess the pilot was having too much fun attacking big fat buildings

I often miss important messages in chat because I'm too busy doing other things, like looking out for enemies, shooting at enemies, running from enemies or reviving people shot by enemies. Another annoying aspect of BF2 is that all commorose messages that do print to the chat print in the exact same font and color as typed messages, so it's easy to overlook things, and automatically assume that it's one of the commorose commands.

Yeah, I miss a lot of chat, even though I often type in chat to tell off stupid helo pilots and such.

Sometimes it's easier to catch a chat message in a firefight than listen to someone say something, due to the fact that the chat stays there for longer.
Snipers can work well with chat if they use it

Since i gotton my mic to work on viop, ive been using it more mic than reading. Or when i am flying or tanking, i tend not to notice chat. I only notice greeen for squad chat, sometimes speaking them aloud if not many have mics.

Blue text sometimes goes by un-noticed, unless its in capitol letters.
Green and red chat catch my attention like cleavage in the candystore.
So when we have complete idiots arguing non-sense on global-chat like earlier today on TG, i'm put off my game.
Spamming text like that, and you have my vote for the boot!
Text is important.

I personally use chat to relay important messages to the team, such at the grid loc of enemy rallies, or when we need assistance/the blue mob to DO something.
Likewise; I check the chat for these sort of messages - Especially as a transport pilot for folk saying "AA AT SOUTH BUNKER"

I agree as long as the person not using a mic isnt in control of a vehicle or in a gunner position
if i'm in the vehicle. If people want to do that in their own vehicles that's fine.
At the moment i'm having difficuly flying/landing and also need to keep an eye on my speed/open the command map etc. In those kind of situations a mic is essential. On foot, then it does't matter as long as they can hear the rest of the team. You just have to keep an eye out for green text in the top left corner in case they spot something
