Vehicle speeds

I noticed a couple of references to the good old joint operations game this week, in said game vehicle speed is adjusted via 3 'gears', in practice this is really slow, medium and fast speeds.
Plent of ppl here don't have throttles and therefore vehicle speed is generally fast or nothing, unless u keep tapping accelerate which doesnt work very well.
So I was wondering if there is a way to have 3 hotkeys for different levels of thrust in PR? That way players without joysticks can more safely and efficiently move around the battlefield- and gunners can more effectively engage on the move.

so basicly what you are saying is you want Q W and E to be used instead of just W

Or shift 'gears' with your scroll wheel. That'd be awesome.

3 keys yes, not necessarily those ones. Just as an alternative to a throttle.

That would be pretty sweet...so I ditto Rudd's question. Is it possible?

How about making Shift + W as acceleration and W as maintaining current speed, thus creating a "Cruise Control" Mechanism that has unlimited speed possibilities instead of only three.

didnt think of that, question- if u start accelerating but dont reach max speed, then open ur xfire, will the vehicle continue at the speed it was going when u opened xfire?

i dont know about the xfire thing, but i know if you were drivin and then opened up your map on vbf2 you went at the same speed and in the same direction with out having to press any buttons, i used it all the time on wake when i was driving the boat.

If you die in a tank, the tank will continue along its path.

While you're driving, press the chat key button, you'll continue along the same path, and it's less intrusive than the map

If you hit chat you can no longer control direction.
If you hit map I believe you can, but you have a bloody map in the way.

.5/.6 used to have the "boost", which was sort of like shifting gears.
It's gone now though :<
