Button J - chats to the whole server.
Button K - chats to your team.
Button L - chats to your squad.
That kind of thing you mean?

I think he means something similar to EAX but with text, if youre too far away you cant hear them.
I dont know, I would say "no do it to voip leave text like secret teamwide communications" but VOIP is hardcoded, and since those with voip would have limitless range it just seems counter productive to make text limited

Well,I think it's already there after a fashion with the differing chat buttons. Can't see it being improved on as the whole game is set up for VOIP anyhow.
But using button L for chat means no-one else on the team can hear you (read it),only your squad which is sort of about only guys near you (your tight knit squad) hearing (seeing) it.
I really can't see how (or why) that would be improved.
Using the in game VOIP plus a Teamspeak channel is the ultimate use of communications for me. (VOIP for your squad, Teamspeak for SL's to talk together)
I never have time to use chat unless I'm dead or doing a boring stake out defence.Hardly ever read it either.Too busy hiding/shooting/stalking/whatever.

Chat with people within 10m of your position
Example:
Person writes "Hi" using this talk option.
Another player standing 5m from him sees the "Hi" text.
Player standing 15m from the person sees nothing in chat.
I use the 10m just as a example, it probably should be a bit more.
well for a start i doubt its possible but even if it was, it is still a online game, removing chat more or less would not be a good thing for it.
"oh ****, I've got to find and get 5m away from the admin to tell him of a TKer!, oh ****, only admin is on the other team! now if i go 5m up to him hes going to knife me!"

If the APC is 5m away from you you can see who is driving it via there name tag, or if you are in it, press F1 and you will see who is driving it, failing that you can say "APC in *where it is* go to *where you want* please".

You enter the APC
You use this "Talk" option and say "Drive to D5"
APC driver (Which isnt part of your squad) sees the message, since he is within the hearing range. Other APC drivers around the map dont even know about this since they are far away.
APC moves to D5, and we are happy.
How about;
You are ordered to go to D5.Your SL asks for transport over VOIP.The commander uses VOIP to transport SL to get your squad in an APC and take you to D5.
If we didn't have VOIP I'd agree with you.But we do, so I don't.

Why I have a feeling that you keep missing my point continuoussly.
'cos I'm an argumentative *******.
That would happen where, in the Project Reality heaven server? It can happen yes, I've done it. But it's not like that in every round, every server.
No it isn't,but it bloody well should be.In Tactics and Teamwork server it sometimes happens.
But I don't need/want what you're suggesting so I argue against it.I think it's just more spam in addition to the **** that's already there.Personally I'd like to switch it off/remove chat completely and go full VOIP.

Another aspec of 'Joint Operations' that should have survived!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
in JO, there were keys for in-vehicle chat, local (the surrounding area), team chat and global chat.
