Jumping from a heli into water...

I just watched the 0.5 Promo trailer ( it's great btw

) and in it a couple of soldiers where dropped of by a heli hovering above water, which leads me to my question...
How low must the heli hover or rather, how high can one be when exiting the heli without getting injured?

i've seen it up to 400 "units" with no damage. (cant remember which version, haven't tried in .7)

They've changed that, so don't risk it from up high. It still works at a relatively low altitude though I think.

well shucks
nevermind then. (must have been .5-6)

Haven't tried it out myself yet, but I recall reading something about it in the changelog. It was mainly because of people making drops from the grey area (was rather damn frustrating on certain maps)

I pretty sure you will lose health if you jump from more than 5 meters. I read that somewhere. I'll see if I can find it.

Well, I'm rather fond of flying the little birds in Qwai, and as such have done quite a few water drops. In .6 you could do it from around 20 meters if you were all feeling lucky (I didn't risk it) but I'd say you better be able to see the water in your ventral glass panes and around 10 meters to be safe. That way infantry can get in safely, and if you need to pull a wtfomg! maneuver in the helo you've got room to.

I've dropped from some short distances and still taken damage, but unknown how much. Not enough to bleed, so I'll back up symplify's statement of 10 meters safe distance.

Here is a quick snippet from the tester's forum.
- alt200 = instant death
- alt80 = instant death
- alt50 = 4 field packs to head (bleeding out)
- alt30 = 2 field packs to heal
- alt20 = 1 field pack to heal
- alt10 = near zero damage

Alt = 80 death
Alt = 200 death.... well that goes without saying dosn't it?
Alt = 550 death... Just so we're clear

Anyhow you can jump off the carrier into the water and be reletively OK (field dressing is a good idea) so I'd use that as a guide for max hieght. better to drop them lower anyway so the enemy dosn't see where you drop them... check out the drop off onto land in this
Video See the AA trailing behind the L'bird? awesome

had he of been higher he wouldn't of made it

alt 30 is best, and I took only 1 health pack to heal. The heli should be in a slow movement to not get hit my RPG's and small arms fire.
P.S.:Great Tactic taht is used alot.
Have you ever jumped from 5meters into water?

Jumping into ware from 5 meters with only your swimming shorts on is fun, also from 10meters, but the 5 meters would all ready be too much with full gear on.
I think it should not be a possibility to jump from a heli into water. you'll probably just would went straight into bottom and drown.
I have jumped once with full gear (gun and battle west including gas mask shuffle ammo etc.) and landed into water which reached into my bellybottom. that was pretty hard coming out. not meantion I would swim 200meters after jumping from 10meters from heli.
Thou the swimming part in PR maybe ain't realistic but it's a good addition into gameplay.
and jumping from air into solid ground, propably more than 1meter give a great risk of breaking you leg's. Jumping from +2 meter is just not possible.
There's probably even know too much of depending on magical health pack... I dont know, what other poeple think?

Actually the jumpers tested from the highest altitude (200 in this case) first. After realizing they went *splat* pretty hard we descended to 80 and continued to go down from there.

We test if something works, something that's made by the DEVs. If it doesn't they have to fix it, that's why it was tested.
I agree that 10m is a bit extreme with full gear.
