HK21E GPMG Selector Switch Positions

The MEC's current squad automatic weapon, the HK21E, is lacking a 3-round burst trigger group. According to Heckler and Koch (and numerous sources), the manufacturer of the weapon, it indeed has this trigger group. Maybe take the burst setting of the QBZ-95 and whack it straight on  . This is also an extremely simple one to code, just exchange:

Code: Select all

rem ---BeginComp:SingleFireComp ---
ObjectTemplate.createComponent SingleFireComp
ObjectTemplate.fire.roundsPerMinute 900
ObjectTemplate.fire.addFireRate 2
ObjectTemplate.fire.addFireRate 0
ObjectTemplate.fire.fireInCameraDof 1
rem ---EndComp ---
for

Code: Select all

rem ---BeginComp:SingleFireComp ---
ObjectTemplate.createComponent SingleFireComp
ObjectTemplate.fire.roundsPerMinute 900
ObjectTemplate.fire.addFireRate 2
ObjectTemplate.fire.addFireRate 1
ObjectTemplate.fire.addFireRate 0
ObjectTemplate.fire.fireInCameraDof 1
rem ---EndComp ---

Not that i know what any of that scribble means, but i'd suspect that the burst of the HK21 would be pretty much the same RoF as the fully auto setting. The QBZ burst would be a little too slow in terms of RoF.
Nothin a bit-a-coding cannot do.

Indeed. The "burst" setting for every weapon has the same ROF as the "automatic" setting.

My Jane's guide agrees.

I'm all for it.

It is accurate that the HK21 uses a 4-position selector. The question is, how often would someone use those settings with a support weapon? I was able to fire my M249 in 3-round bursts pretty easily, but rarely did due to the role of the weapon.

Are there any German soldiers in the forums that can verify if the use of the lower settings are even practiced?

Afaik the Bundeswehr doesnt use the HK21 (?) but the MG3 and MG4. Could be wrong.

But i dont think it would be a bad thing to have the fire mode. Its one more click you have to do to switch the fire mode. And if you place the burst right before auto, i dont see a situation self defence would be impossible.

If you are on semi, and someone appears in front of you, change to burst and you can defend yourself
If you are on burst, shoot or switch to auto
If you are on auto, shoot

There wont be many situations the firemode will annoy you i think. Only when you want to switch from semi to auto, but usualy the gun is on auto anyway.

The new ROF on that weapon KICKS ***.

If it has 3RB IRL, go for it.

While I fully support its addition, I'm sure theres a reason it has been kept out of PR up to now.

I wonder, if in 3RB it will have relatively small recoil?

Also, I'm wondering why the MEC use a 7.62x51 battle rifle for their service rifle, but use a 5.56x45 SAW for their automatic rifleman? Is this a common practice? I thought the SAW was supposed to fire the same round as the service rifle.

EDIT: Nop, the HK21E fires the x51 round. That is one MEAN SAW. Case closed :D

Yep, H&K 21E uses the 7.62mm belted, while the H&K 23E uses the 5.56mm belted. Although it's been getting difficult to find a 23 these days.

Too simple. Watch, now the gun is going to explode in our faces when we fire it in the next patch. ;)
