The soldier model

I saw the new soldier model, and it seems like the soldiers accesories are attached to his body.
So I'm wondering if you guys could detach them from the body, so when the soldier walks around the stuff can swing and bounce of his body. This is just for visual satisfaction.
America's Army has it, and it looks great.[/i]

Maybe I think, if BF2 is a mod friendly game

And all the contact the BF2 Devs are having with the mods (as I´ve heard) is a proof that it just maybe be a mod friendly game.

I don't know if that is possible with the BF2 engine.
The engine is designed to handle large outdoor maps and therefor it might not be able to handle details like loose gear on the soldiermodels. At least not without a considerable hit on your CPU with lag and loss of framereate as a result.
I might be totally wrong though.

It's just that I read one of the older threads here and it was mentioned that there would be limitations to what could be done with the engin, detail wise that is.

Maybe with a SDK it´s possible? But ofcourse, DICE and EA knows that some mod-teams can outperform their original game big time, and they don´t want that so.. I think... No SDK...

it is possible to do it but it requires animation... as of now we dont have an animator.... we are also unsure if the engine for BF2 will support this without causing huge lag....

I believe an official SDK has already been announced... *does the SDK dance*. Why would EA/DICE NOT want mods to out perform them, mods draw customers... and customers make them money. And seeing as BF:2 would seemingly be the last BF game(sadly) and SDK will keep it alive much longer because of all the thing mods will be able to do.
On topic, yeah that would be awsome if the gear actualy moved.

Great suggestion buddy, but i highly doubt it's possible unless, BF intergrates a good physics engine like AA did

its not necessairly physics, if we animate it, it will work

Yeah but will you? Won't the hit on performance be too big?

Hmm i dont think that its codable, just an animation file is needed, it wont cause any big lag cause of the LOD system. But i dont really know how the animation system works.

Wow does that mean if you get hit on the utility belt it goes flying away?

by Ugly Duck
You might be able to code it... but of you get hit in the waste youll have a lot more to worry about then your utility belt, like your life for instance.

Well I mean if it grazes a mag pouch will it pop off? And will your ammo capacity then decrease.

Pouches don't pop off. Check out the equipment from a friend in the forces and you'll see what I mean
