How about a convoy map

I was just thinking, when the objective maps come in, a convoy map would be sweet. This would only work well if there was a mobile spawn point in the convoy though. The convoy itself could move slowly, and be made up of programmed cars that players couldn't control. The only problem I see here is what the objective itself. Easy enough if the insurgents or whoever have to just destroy the cars, but if the cars could be repaired it would be a little harder. Maybe once the convoy is stopped, it's stopped and USMC or whoever would have to keep some item(s) out of the enemy hands. I didn't really ever think it all the way through as it was just spur of the moment, but you guys do with it as you will.

I would like the see the actual convoy (trucks guarded by humvees) be player control but the truck drivers were selected by the team and when say 3 trucks were destroyed the convoy team would lose.

I believe one of the devs has hinted about more innovative objective style gameplay such as convoys.

I dont think your idea would work very well without AI scripting on a MUCH more complex level than BF2 (think OFP). Getting a certain vehicle (truck) into a certain location should be possible though.

Would the convoy be out in the open, easy pickings for aircraft. Or is it in a built up area so that some one could hit the convoy from a roof?

I really like this idea.

However,

I think Happy's got a point here. Those vehicles would need to be player controlled. If not, eventually people will learn the routes the AI takes and then be easily able to ambush the convoy everytime.

Like I said, I didn't think the idea through or anything so everything I'm hearing is good for it so far. As for the "will they be open to aircraft" I didn't imagine so. I thought that the attackers should be fairly poorly armed(ak-47's and rpg-7's) and maybe have a few fast atack vehicles. This would work best with the chechen's as a base from the expansion pack. Weapons of course should be modified further, at least I think so. Most of them shouldn't have nades, or maybe just one nade, they shouldn't have any class with a parachute also. The vehicles they would have should be similar to the civilian cars in special forces(or I imagine them this way anyways).

I don't know what the terrain should be, I was thinking mountains and ravines like in Afganistan, but because players can't climb mildly steep slopes that might not be the best Idea. Forest might be good, I know I love Steel Thunder. Urban could be very cool also.

You know what would be a great spawning point in expanding on this idea is perhaps a moving train? You spawn on it, and its a rather hard target to hit i would think. I think you guy have a great idea.

it does kind of depend on the team atacking the convoy/contorling it.(pictures a PLA convoy rolling though forest down tight road. An apache pop's up from behind a hill ahead and all hell breaks loose)

 Hey that was a good idea for once.
