Well, again: Don't smoke your own bunker! It's just ridiculous.
Usually I see this once or twice a day: Somebody is trying to shot outside from a bunker, and the enemy shots back. Often he isn't even injured because the enemy didn't hit the small window and the wall have protected him. But then for some unknown reason he drops a smoke just below himself! Then the enemy is still shooting the window, and the smarter ones calmly aim a nade and throw it inside, but we can't shot them down because we can't see a thing. Usually there is 3 or 4 ppl still inside when they do this. So again, please, it's just ridiculous!
Sometimes I do smoke a bunker too, but I'm usually alone, or with a clanmate. But I do this only because everybody is dead, and there are a lot of enemy outside usually with support weapon covering the window, so we can't use the bunker as a bunker anymore. Instead I try to distract the enemy using it while my squad counterattacks, or I try to hide my friend's c4 in the basement of the bunker, or just throw down a nade after and hide that. And when I do this, I'm on the 2nd floor and throw the smoke down onto the basement, so I can still aim my nades and gun down there. I only smoke the other floors when I'm alone and bout to die.
Now I could be more general, to not smoke your own cover. That usually stands. To smoke it when you can't use it as a cover anymore, to prevent the enemy firing after you from it while you are retreating. Well, this usually stands too, but not always. To smoke the enemy's cover usally is a good idea too, but not always. But generally if you can't throw/shot an explosive nade inside a cover, you can throw a smoke in front of it. This stands for enemy tanks too: If you don't have heavy AT, just smoke them. This won't do anything on open terrain where the tank just go away, but betwen buildings it will surely have a bad time, and usually if there is any AT nearby, you can buy 1 or 2 safe shots for him, or maybe you allow an enginier (not having smoke at all) to mine it.
And please always when you smoke, think of what you win and what you lose, and please, think the last one twice!
