I really must get this OFP that everyone keeps talking about...

I personally don't like Zatar;

BF2 map + BF2 style capping system = BF2? Do not want! *Throws dummy out of cot*

Not the best graphics, but it was an awesome single player game. This game reminds me of it. Get ArmA instead, though. Its pretty much the same game on a better engine I've been told (don't know for sure).

This map is awesome for teamwork. On the US side, a tranport and LB squad is a must, as long as it isn't idiots that are just flying aimlessly. The commander has to organize them and send the 3 LB's against infantry and soft skinned vehicles, and as a escort for the BH.

On the MEC side you gotta use the bunkers and firebases correctly and dig in. I've had some great battles at the farm, center hill, and airfield. Use three squads to defend those three points, and use a roaming squad of infantry, and a roaming squad of APC's to move quickly on flags that are being capped or need more defense.

Its a helluva map, and is one of the funnest I think. Whether your in a Blackhawk full of soldiers, a Littebird that sends a hail of tracers, an APC moving in a column, or an infantry man in the back of a TOW mounted HMMWV, racing towards the entrenched enemy.

I hated this map in BF2, but the guys at PR and utilized every inch of potential it had, and making it one of the greats in my opinion.

Yes this map is unique. It does require USA to use the helis properly though which is pretty rare.
I look forward to playing this in a scrim

zatar rocks my socks.

although people need to realise that the hill is the most important part of the map, if MEC get a bunker up there and start constructing assets then it takes a real combined arms effort by the USMC to bring it down.

such as ordering all three lilbirds to carpet bomb the hill followed immediately by a multiple APC rush before assets could be rebuilt.

if you dont have a decent US team, those 500 tickets are going to be the longest 500 tickets you will ever have.

Duck Hunt ftw!

Had a really good round on the map as MEC, but the Hydra LBs seriously need to be tweaked in my opinion.

Since when do they attack from 600 m by diving almost straight down? Not to mention the lamers, that launch all their rockets a couple of infantry in the open, when they could use the frigging cannon.

I had '0.6 Qwai River' flashbacks of times, where the USMC sent their LB to rape the entire CP as we captured it, since they sucked too much defending it...

Zatar is pretty cool. I always feel heroic when we are entering the choppahs! Something really odd happened on Zater yesterday though: A littlebird crashed into our Blackhawk. Holy shite :O

Yeh the new Zatar is excellent now..., when on the usmc side i cant help hearing "the ride of the valkiri" when we all set off from the carrier :D .

I do think the MEC tank spawn times should be a little shorter maybe for their counter attack. Plus if MEC build an AA gun near Lz1 the usmc have real trouble getting a foot hold and it can be quite boring, especially when AA guns can reach the carrier, it opens up a whole world of hurt.

Nothing like sweeping across the map as usmc building assets as you go then capping the last flag waiting for the MEC armour to counter attack.

Woaw, I just played it for the first time.. It absolutely rocked, even though usmc was a teamkillfest because of some 10yearold kids.

Can't wait to play it again! :D

The littlebird will die in 42 bullets from an M16, they dive at such extreme angles in order to stop even the AA gun being able to target it. The vodnik 50 cal had no angle at one point and dies unfired, though I should have moved back maybe

It didnt really show up but the helis were not just heading straight down, the littlebirds were upside down as they dived. The littlebird nosedives so much, especially if you dive as well, it will begin to somersault. Think I need a joystick to try and control it, they did well.

i hate it, i really dont get the vbf2 style of capping flags...

I like this new version, including the more open capping logic too. Reason: strong air mobility used with the linear capping logic diverges.

Yeah, this is gonna be a fantastic tournament map.

It can be very bad for the marines if there are a lot of lame nublink pilots, but a few good pilots allows the marines a huge advantage. I've played it as MEC twice and loved it, but the marines can keep you running all over the place.

whats not to get? one side is attacking and one is defending, one side has many choppers and thus the defenders need to constantly watch their back.

just because its vanilla doesnt mean it cant work, in this case its near perfect.
