Maybe it is just a little 90 degrees deviation..

Or Maybe the PR compass tells lies..

But in every(?) map the sun is on the North... a thing I don't understand since the sun should be on the West or East on (almost?) every map..

Or is the BF2/PR sun just a little joke which in fact is not the sun but the northern star?

Actually PR takes place on another planet where the sun rises in teh south and sets in the north.

Never noticed this b4 lol- nice observation.

it could be that PR takes place during late fall to early spring so the sun wont rise as high so at noon, itll look like its in the south or something

Yes its important because its part of navigation. I dont think its an easy fix though so maybe we just carry on ignoring it

The way I see it, the DEVs would probably have to rotate the map around, or edit where the sunshines, etc. Though, there are far more important things to worry about I'd assume.

If I had to choose between this and the source code (includes fastropes, cure for instaproning, sway etc.), I'd surely choose this.

I bet its fiddly to do or they would have done it allready.
Rotating the map would involve altering all the shadows and everything and I bet that kind of thing is fixed not dynamic, we dont have HDR

The alternate is altering the compass which seems feasible but again might be linked to bigger things

People used to navigate by the stars and the sun is one of those, it could be part of the gameplay in lots of ways like being able to blind your opponent and but its probably a bit ambitious

Altering the compass would make sense, but you would essentially have to rotate the map. Otherwise your compass would say "North" and your direction the actual map would be "East."

Is it not map specific? And if so, who the heck cares. :) You put the sun where it best gives you the effect you are looking for [sunset city, etc.]

When the map is made, the top is north[pretty sure] and once you start mapping, you cant just change that. You set where the sun is, and there you go.

Shadows come in after running lightmaps which take the position of the sun you chose into account and get shadows from there. If you move the sun, you should rerun lightmaps to get them to be accurate to the new sun.

A realistic sun would only be important if you were to make a Stonehenge map. In which case you better put it in one of the right locations. ;)

But come on, navigation? Ive never heard someone in PR say "He's ten degrees east of the sun" or "We're heading out towards the sun, then cutting east". If you wanna blind your opponent with the sun, the degrees on your compass being off have no part in that. You'll just be blinding them from a different direction ;)

Lol. ;)

ps i love winks and smileys. my bad.. go overboard now and then... :)
