Hello there,
Long time lurker, first time poster. I've loved watching the progress of this mod. There are some awesome gameplay videos on Youtube. I've actually been playing vBF2 DEMO for the last three years, unwilling to drop $50 on the game. But Target had it for 9.99 and I snatched it up came home and installed it and downloaded all the Project Reality files. I had an argument with PnkBstrA constantly running... so it took a little longer to play.

I played for the first time last night and I discovered my PC sucks. =(
I might try again today, on a cool freshly started PC. In the worst case scenario, can anyone tell me how to spend $250, so I can get in the game?
Here are specs:
P4 2.8Ghz, 512Mb RAM, Geforce 5200. Not sure how much memory is on the video card...

Yea over a gig of ram if definately a must

Graphics card is just a lil bit too out of it, My m8 uses a 6800 and finds that still works... I have a 7600 and thats groovey too. Best to try and find a cheap 7800 as it'll be worth the money for you if you dont plan to buy another upgrade for a bit... (however 8600 would be best...)

Thanks!
A bit more introduction: Used to play a Half life mod called Hostile Intent. Its another reality mod, but of course all of them are limited by their engines. I've been gettin into paintball, but I've always been intrigued by milsim.

I havent seen a JDAM yet, but I bet it would crash this pinto. I don't feel qualified to suggest but I'd love to play a game with infantry operated indirect fire, ie mortars. If I enlisted I would enlist as 11C.

With 1 GB Ram and GF 6600 you will be able to play smooth with low graphic settings.

RAM and a good gfx card should be significantly less than $250. Use newegg.com if you're in the US, if not ask for a site that will deliver to your country.

Seeing as your PC is an old banger, and you being surprised it sucks, don't forget to do a little research on your motherboard. See if it's PCI-e(?) or AGP to get the right videocard. And if it's worth to bother an upgrade, i found out my motherboard only supported 4x AGP in stead of 8x AGP, and it has simular specs as yours so you might want to look in to that too.

Thanks for all the suggestions guys. Hopefully, I'll see some of you in game in the next two months.

I've been enjoying the hell out of vBF2, but I can't help but feel like I am still playing counterstrike. People play vBF2 so much different than demoBF2... I mean, they don't play like noobs. But I have to say, the nade spam is CRAZIE! If you have two squads versus two squads, 12 v 12, you could very well have 36 nades being thrown at you every 5 seconds! It's insane, in a firefight there are 4 or 5 nades going off EVERY SECOND.

If you need to be really cheap pick up a 5700. I could run the game on low at 20-30fps. Thats playable. Other then that I think your good.

I will tell you that I can play on medium with geforce 6800 and 2gb of ram so no need to pay for a really expensive graphic card if you only will play PR.

Your PC will only see 3 gb of ram on a 32bit system.

Geforce 7800+ are far superior to a 8600GT, hell 8600GT isn't even 5% faster than a 7600GT.

Zimmer, it looks like PCI Express. I actually had to remove it to get the old memory out. I had to unplug the Hard drive and card reader as well, its cramped in this hp.

Johnny, it recognizes 3.62. I didn't get the chips for a steal but I shopped around, ~$44 each.

It's probably gonna be another month or two before I upgrade the Video Card, but maybe sooner if I find something under $70.

Everything plays pretty good at low and I usually get 20-25fps unless I've been playing all day. Sometimes the suppression effect can slow it down to 4 or 5 fps. Not sure if that was the intended effect on lower machines.

Is there a command to see current fps? I'm just kinda guessing.
