I played around with the Presets for 3DS Max Rendering and now my renders are REALLY REALLY REALLY Dark and take FOREVER to render. Anyone know how to set the renderer back to the install default?

you changed it most likely...

try changing the environment settings, also put a skylight or an omni light in the scene.
