Plot

Hello ! I have a question and at the same time a suggestion - why there is no plot in Project Reality ? You know - WHAT caused the war ? Why USMC fights with MEC and British with Chinese ?
I see no reason... mission briefings say mostly about the terrain, who wants to kill who, and "how hard will it be" ;)
When I enter the battlefield sometimes it's hard for me to identify with the current situation. Simply - I don't know WHY am I fighting and dying.

For me the plot could be told at the opening of the game, some kind of film, introduction with narration ("War, war never changes" :) )

This is my idea... and sorry for any grammar mistakes ;)

For some games a compelling backstory really helps get that RPG feeling, but I perfer the current way, its more of a "here is a scenario, using what tactics and assets avaliable to you- outcompete the opposing team"

Maybe you would be happier playing a game where you are a plumber with a little cap and mustache and on a journey to save a princes from evil turtles and mushrooms?

I'm just jerking your chain. ;)

But then again I never questioned the game of chess either. Why are the kings at odds with each other? Why is it called a rook when it looks like a castle?

let's be fair here, good idea :)

Tourneys always give that kind of feel of story and background etc but I would like something a little bit more game based.

Oil shortages? sanctions? why are we there what are we doing, have the chinese/MEC/ anyone attacked us recently? are we counter attacking them.

Then again your own lil story evolves if you sit online long enough lol... Just read my Novel "the battle of river Qwai"

Lets just say...

With NATO forces becomeing increasingly influential in the Middle East, a 'Middle East Coalition' was formed out of several anti-western Countries. The MEC supplied insurgents fighting in Iraq and Afghanistan with weapons, training and equipment. Suffering heavy losses, NATO pull out of the Middle East and return home, leaving the MEC free to take over the entire Middle East.

1 Year later, and the Western world is falling apart. The MEC have stopped all exports of Oil and other natural resources, and supplies are drying up elsewhere. Russia refuses to supply any fuel to anyone except China, who they are now close allies with.

So...NATO attack...

The plot is basically whatever "Map Briefing" the mapper decide to slaps on to the map.

So other than the maps such as Al Basarah which are based on real events, the plot is probably going to be something like:

"Comrades! After securing [name non-nato faction] 's precious lands, we continue to pursue the righteous cause! The [name nato faction] has begun another deadly strike against the [name non-nato faction]. Glory To The Motherland!Long Live warlord Bush!"

 j/k

...because the Russians painted it red and the Americans wrote "Coca Cola" over it.
