Tank Hits.

There needs to be more of an obvious reaction to the HUD when hit by a tank shell while inside a tank.

Right now, you can barely even tell if you have or not, especially while moving over uneven ground.

It seems with every new version a new tank audibility is used. Some have been better than others. Although I can't quote previous versions systems it is clear to me right now it is by far the worst it has been.

It's definitely not just me who feels this way. Half the time I hit an enemy tank he doesn't even notice. I'm pretty sure if you're a crewman in one of these things you're going to be able to tell when you're hit.

**If you come in here telling me to be more carefull and that I should be awesome like you and know where all enemies are at all times, please don't reply, just alt f4. There's always one.

indeed... Right now a SABOT shell feels the same as a speed bump.

Also don't like the way tanks just pop after XX amount of hits but that's another thread.

Somewhere someone posted a video of the inside of an APC as it was being hit with shells of some kind.
I remember being able to hear the pinging of all the metal shards and scabs ricocheting inside the tank after a huge BOOM!! of the shell hitting

I agree...there have been several times I was unaware that I was hit at all until I see the death scene of my burning husk!
The same goes with being hit by an airstrike.

Here is the video.

LiveLeak.com - U.S. Marine EFV MK 44 Bushmaster 30mm Canon Test

Devs please watch this video and see if you can implement it because it would really make tanks more realistic. And notice when the tnak is hit by the sabot round from the apc, it makes a really sharp pinging sound much like how a revolver sounds. You cant really argue with the realisticness of this video since it is what really happens when a tank is hit so please carfully look at this video.

You're all getting the wrong idea. The problem is tank shots and tank hits not getting played/shown. For some unknown reason every 2nd or 3rd tank shot won't show as being a shot. Thus, it won't even look like it's hit anything, thus the people in the tank it hits with a sabot are clueless.

When this bug doesn't occer you see the sabot round, it hits, provided it hits a tank it makes a really loud metallic bang which is very noticable.

Point taken, I'll take a look.

Good example here devs.

So...its actually a bug that causes the hits to not be noticed from the indide?

Nope, it's a bug where every 2nd or third shot doesn't register visually/audibly. You don't see/hear them shoot, thus you don't see the projectile, thus you don't hear an impact. vanilla bug I believe.

Soooo......I'll fire two rounds in the dirt so I can drive around in my now "silenced" tank! ;)

No, it's completely random. From testing it I've noticed that it's usually every 2nd or third shot.

My gunner today on Quinling fired 3-4 rounds "silenced" in a row. I didn't realize that it was a bug, rather than just my computer being retarded until I popped in here, but that would explain why I can't tell half the time when I get hit, or why neither of the tanks he killed with those shots even looked at us.

Personally, I think that there should be a better set of noises for when the tank gets hit, but that's just the nitpicker in me. Plus, I spend a lot of time in tanks.

Also, any chance of having some sort of display pop up on the HUD when the tank gets the random "thrown tread" or "disabled turret" damage?

I think I've noticed this bug aswell, but it seemed like if you fire asap when reloading the next round it will do it. For a quick fix you could just make a tank shell do 1 damage to crew on hit?

I noticed this in same bug when in land rovers and hmvees too. I would be hit by an RPG and wouldn't hear a thing. It would just go into 3rd person and show a quiet, smoldering wreck.

So that's why I find my tank exploading randomly (or perhaps I just hit a mine) Perhaps a violent camera shake coupled with a "deafening" effect (forget the proper name) I understand a bug causes some of the "silent" hits but it's still a little quiet. At the moment I wonder if I've been hit or that tailgating Landy forgot to brake!

maybe a quick flash of the master alarm?

Can't believe we never knew about this.

Only fix I can think of is damaging the crew inside by say 10-15% which would cause a more noticable damage effect when hit.

Although I suppose there is no fix because the shot never really existed in the first place..

Instead of creating a new thread what's wrong with the drivers view point.

A lot of the time my gunner will fire and I'll see the shot go over the tank and hit the terrain well behind and I'll usually say "how in hell did you miss?" and they'll reply "what you talking about? It was a direct hit".

Same experience as gunner.

I think its because of the raised view of the driver. Because in vanilla the only view out was through the cannon view. Probably because of the raised POV everthing else coming out looks high so that could possibly be it. I dont know for sure but thats how I have interpreted this little oddity. If you see the shot fly about 4 feet over the enemy tank than consider it a hit.

yea razick is correct....

those are both vanilla bugs which are prety annoying but no one has found work aroudns for them yet...

yeah, this is something we really need to look into.

What if you make it so the noise happens when the tank takes damage, instead of just when a shell hits? For example, whenever a tank takes the amount of damage a shell cause suddenly, it causes a boom? So you link the noise to the damage taken instead of linking it to the shell or the hit.

I don't know what I am talking about, and this will probably not work, but I thought I'd throw it out there.
