try one of these
1. settings > audio > max out 'input' settings
2. voip on the server you played on might have been bugged (happens sometimes) - just join different server
3. maybe the squadmembers you were playing with had their output set too low

/i play on audio settings allowing me to ride in a tank or even fly an A10 with VOIP working wery well (sometimes i can hear squaddies speaking VERY quietly. quiet enough to prevent other SM's from hearing them)
these are:
I/O - 100%
music / sounds - 33%
voice over 100%

may be setting back to default settings fixes it - sometimes bf2 config files will just break randomly

btw: you hear other sounds right?

When reinstalling BF2 and the sf and 1.41 patch .do not restart it till the VEERY end. You will know. Keep walking away for 10 min. at a time, answer a checkbox/next thing, then go on, when asked to restart hit no until about 40 min. go by and the instal wizard disappears from the task bar. It takes like ten min. each part. bf2,SF,1.41, and 1.41 again. The voip setup should be in there too.

Have you tried the "dxdiag" in windows. Check sound and make sure sound acceleration matches your hardware. I have onboard sound and BF2 does not like it at all if "full acceleration" is selected. Windows also likes to revert itself back to "full acceleration" periodically. I try to remember to check before I start BF. Ticks me off after waiting for BF to load, for the map to load, for me to play the game 30 seconds only for the VOIP to ****-out.

I am not sure if the above will help you, but it works for me... GL

I have the same problem, ffranko. If BF2VoiceSetup (or ingame voip setup) works fine after 30 sec voip turns disabled :/
I have onboard sound card too.

I have to turn DXDIAG sound setting "No Acceleration". I don't know if that is what you meant by "standard".

By not having a snazzy sound card, I don't know what I am missing, but it can't hurt me, right?

Dude, go for a SB X-FI card.
Check newegg.com.
Then turn off your on-board.
Trust me.
