Iron sights view point

I noticed something while firing my airsoft gun today. Now, yes I know thats not even close to a real gun, but the argument gained should still hold water.

When I look down the irons on my gun, I focus on the sight, but see the stock etc in my peripherals. I then thought of the BF2/PR iron sights, and realised that in order for a person to view them like they do ingame, they'd have to stuff their face 1-1/2 inch from the irons. This can't be a good idea, as I wouldn't even do it with my airsoft because of the kick/vibration, let alone a powder rifle.

Just an aspect I thought was strange. Goes right along with me feeling it is strange to view the gun (when not sighted in, i.e. just running/walking with it) as if you were stretching your shoulder and arm and holding it against your upper arm.

I believe many infantrymen put their faces pretty close to the irons on M16s. It's not like a large caliber rifle, where the kick will knock the irons into your face. Given the controllable amount of recoil, you can get your face pretty close. Of course there can still be debris ejected out around the charging handle, but I don't think that's much of an issue with unsuppressed weapons.

Also, I don't know how much you can add in the peripheral view.

Its a known problem with the VBF2 sights.

What is your rifle a clone of? The AK & SKS both have this issue, while the rest of the weapons are fairly accurate in their sight representation. When I shoulder my AK47 (not airsoft), my eye lays about eight or nine inches from the rear sight. When I shoulder my AR15, my eye is about 2 inches from the rear sight. If I get too far forward on either guns while I'm firing, they tell me.. by nudging against my glasses.

They are developing realistic ironsights for the AK74M in the Russian Forces mod for PR, here is a pic of what the ironsights for the model currently look like Image

compared to this real life reference

I hope eventually the DEVs can find time to produce quality ironsights like these to replace the ridiculus EA ironsight models

Finally - a real ironsight view for the AK - hopefully the insurgents will get a 47 as well to replace the dodgy Type 56 from Dice

Yea, if they wanted too they could just use that ironsight from the AK74M to replace the current AK47 ironsights because they are basically the same
