Caves

We all know that you cant put trenches, caves, latrines, etc in to the mesh of the terrain. But with more afgan maps in the mix natural terrain features should become more prominent/
I was wondering if any of the devs have tried creating caves in the same way as buildings, basically a raised area above the mesh that looks like the rest of the ground but is enterable and looks like natural/near natural rock formations inside?
EoD have a couple of rock formations with similar properties.
Apology in advance if this is a resuggestion (i searched)

This would be nioce for an Afghan environment. I have an idea that could work, where Taliban spawn in the caves and can go out of one of several exits however they cannot reenter because the collusion mesh in on one side of the doors(Covered with a hanging cloth or so).

That could be really cool. Crawl/crouch tunnels, it'd be like being in Nam
But really, that would be intense recon/flank fun.
The entrances could be covered by grass/trees/bushes etc

Can you remember the name of that map?

Best example of doing this, OP, is on Ghost Train.
The tunnel is one massive static.

EoD is a good mod, but I confess I didn't play it much. All I remember is that there was a CP in between a bunch of rocks, and you had to crouch to get to it.

There are several caves on OGT. The waterfall cave, the tunnel and the secret cave.

I didn't think caves could be done in the BF2 engine.

Soucy, did you even bother reading the posts above you? We already have caves ig.

Caves would be nice in the Afghan maps.....so long as they are not just indefensible holes on the side of mountains.

If we're getting mountainous afgan insurgency maps at some point, they would make good cache locations.

It's really up to individual mappers. If they can find someone to do some statics for them, then they can add it to their map. But this has been mentioned before, although I don't think it's every had its own thread. Anyhow, not a particularly new idea, but a good one nonetheless.

those were on "We Were Soldiers" and "Who'll Stop The Rain"
I know cause I play EOD like a fiend lol (Im an nam fanatic)
back on topic...
This idea is good especially for afgan maps, and if the maps have tons of boulders and other rock formations it would make for some very intense gameplay, especailly if the tunnels are enterable and could be used to flank the enemy

That'd be awesome!!!
Love this suggestion, was thinking of it ages ago when watching the SAS clearing tunnels in Afgan land (I cant spell the real this

)
Would really like to see some proper really deep tunnel networks with bad lighting.
Somewhere like irl where insurgents can hid inside to ambush the soldiers coming inside... REALLLLLY like this idea, Can you imagine the tension over VOIP as you tactically snkea your way in creeping deeper and deeper into the tunnel network until the light behind is gooone...
OHHH OHHHHH Imagine using the Flashbangs!!!!
Is there a way lights can be fitted to the guns?
Creeping through the dark dank tunel, lights on (or off

) on your weapon sneaking carefully because the insurgents could get the drop on you. FLASHBANG!!! go go Clear!!!
Im there already can we have this pleeeaaaasseeee???

Edit is there a way the the JDAM damage can be sent downwards? (so you dont drop it on a house and the people inside survive)
That'd make the tunnel system even better, Just like IRL if it'd too dangerous to go inside, Call in the JDAM to blow straight through
Edit: Reality Reference
Hamas Tuneels in Gaza
Bigger edit OHhHhhhhh these are better
New map? Gaza Strip?
LiveLeak.com - IDF Forces Expose Two Terror Tunnels
LiveLeak.com - The tunnels of danger

Boss, I found a hole...
Just realised I'm posting tunnels and not caves... Should have both
Everyone knows the cave under the waterfall, Picture that going another 400m into the ground and getting smaller as it goes, That's the sorta caves I refer too, I think tunnels can be blended inwith these aswell.
LtSoucy wrote:Those are rocks togather to make a cave...
Isn't that still a cave? :s
I've lost my way I'm going to shut up now...

Those are rocks togather to make a cave. I dont think you can have a object taht can be placed on a map that designed to look like a cave.

Yes, but that doesn't matter, you can make caves already.

but its also right, that we need more of them, and a afgan montain map would be awsome

This is how the tunnel from OGT looks like. For me it looks like one a huge static.
IMO the only way to make realistic caves in PR is to create one huge mountain static (or a part of the mountain static) and mix it with the terrain just like that tunnel on OGT.

thats what we all said, there are basily 2 ways, one huge static for each cave or building caves and tunnels with smaller statics, both had been done a few times, but still not often enough

If its like theogt tunnel we would need a huge mountain static with a tunnel system inside it to make it a bit worthy right?
