Right...

I jumped right intoa PR server without a clue wot was going on.....

I came out...read the manual.....joined another server....

I was very vocal on the VOIP...simply asking for instructions.....Receiving them.....doing as I was told.....(or what I thought I was told), only to spend around 45 minutes on a server with not very much happening at all....before I became bored out of my brains and quit the server.

Has anyone got advice or is it a case that you either get into this mod when it is first released, or be left behind totally?

I suspect the latter and I feel the devs have quite possibly pushed the 'reality' element too far. Perhaps in the real desert, sitting in the back of an APC for 20 minutes and running over vast areas of barren land with nothing happening is quite common.....BUT THAT AINT HAPPENING DURING MY QUALITY TIME.

I wonder how many 'n00bs' are coming to PR0.7 and actually sticking around long enough to learn how to play the game......back to vanilla for me.

(its a shame as the much more considered approach did feel quite good for a bit)

I'm guessing you were on kashan/kufrah. You should try Basrah for more "instant action" or more enjoyable maps like op. ghost train, bi ming (7 for night vision), qwai, sunset city. Secondly if you're going to be infantry, join a squad where the SL has an officer kit, and a rally placed. Don't join a squad where they didn't lock it and the SL is tanking, or you'll be walking a long ways.

Fools Road was a rather large map requiring a lot of tactical movement. Glad to see you took advice and went and read the manual.

It's all about chess moves, getting squads, RP's, firebases and bunkers in teh right places, waylaying enemy reinforcements/armour and getting used to the modern deviation system (moving your feet adds deviation to your shots!)

PR is much more about strategy and tactics rather than vBF2. Take it or leave it basically, it's not for everyone.

Yeah...its quite interesting.. I think the grunts have a really hard time in PR especially the new recruits...your not really sure whats going on and just kinda being trucked around to boring abjectives...

Its funny but we have amanaged to simulate a certain reality in that as well...hehe...

anyway...play a few rounds on some of the smaller maps and you are guaranteed some firefights..

I started in 0.7 and fell in love on the spot. I've always disliked vanilla/all BF games though, so I guess I'm abnormal.

from the ops post, it sounds like you only joined one server for one round and had a bad round. i would really recommend trying other servers/maps before you totally write off this mod. we ALL have bad rounds, its important to choose a good squad because that can make all the difference. a fully functioning, mature, voip squad working together is one of the most enjoyable things about this mod. but if you really wanna go back to vanilla, have fun with your TKs lol

If you're still interested in the game, PM me, I'll let you on the TS, and get you hooked.

MatTheCat, yes the Realism aspect is quite steep, otherwise the mod would be called Project Reality, Well, Almost.

The thing is, is rounds take quite a bit of time, usually just over an hour, maybe 2 when it's a power struggle, and you have to have a lot of patience to get the results you want (Even if that means waiting 20 minutes for an armour squad to clear the path for your infantry section to move in to a flag.)

If running around and gunning is more your thing, then a more action-ready game like vBF2 is surely more your thing. I'm not trying to put you off or anything here, but yes, there is a lot of waiting around in PR sometimes, but if you can execute a team tactic effectively, it pays off big-time :)

Yeah, I think few people would do that kudos to you. Argh, though you've reminded me of when a commander lured me unsuspectingly into his truck with offers of candy and forced me to build 2 firebases for him solo. On that note repair pads and auto building bunkers!

If you're into the Style and like following orders AND use Voip...

Hop in my (or any) Tacteam squad on our server, Grab yourself something like Engineer, L-AT or a support gun and I'll put you to work :P We shall make things rather interesting.

P.S. Lemme know it's you and I can make a slot, First come first serve on who joins normally
Hopefully can relight that fire :D

I was on your server when I had my hour long snooze in the desert....

Running around like a headless chicken...nipping the squad leaders head for instructions.....following them......and then finding out everyone had buggered off somehwere else....

I will give it another go this evening and look out for a TacTeam squad.

I know the game could have great potential once the damn steep learning curve has been overcome.......but that is the thing....steep learning curves are not appealing to n00bs....especially where there are also dozens of vets kicking around.

.......

Give it another chance: join the Thors Brigade server one evening between 7pm and 2am (it's German, so GMT+1).

You will meet a lot of my clanmates there (-=TB=-) and I promise you we will adopt you for a few rounds. We will show you around and make sure you do fun stuff, like flanking an enemy position within your separate fireteam, pounding enemies with a grenadier kit from 150m or watching a contested objective with a machinegun.

Tell them Ante sent you. It's called Adopt-A-Newbie and it is NOT a joke. We do it for anybody who is genuinely interested in PR and wants to see some real teamwork.

Anyway, I hope you stick around and give it another try.

LOL

yeah...I think I will take your advice.....

Tried it again.....Road to Quiling map......got welcomed into the squad by VoIP.....chap asked me wot I was good at...told him never played before.....someone else told me to bugger off and read manual then.

I then started asking for instructions......I got advised not to ask questions, just 'ACT'.

Taking the squad member up on his advice....I decided to spawn at the spawn point I was advised to spawn at...(with white triangle above it). However.....I never spawned there......I spawned at British Air Base instead miles away where I spawned out side very big long barricade with insurmountable barbed wire running along the top of it. after a good 2 minutes it took to run around into the compound where all vehicles and choppers where. I got popped from an enemy hanging around. Same thing happened a 2nd time.....and a 3rd. On my 4th spawn....(after a lengthy wait) I spawned from the air but my BF2 designated parachute button did not work......I died a terible terrible death.

Enough is enough I think......learning curve is absurd for this mod and I bet as the mods life goes on less and less n00bs will find themselves being able to get into it. People work, study, have lives. Not everyone has time to put in 10 hour training course just to play one game.

Its a shame but back to vBF2 for me where I am jet whoring royalty.

Thats why I love Thors Brigade, everybody is just cool there, and I used to live in Germany for three years, I'm kinda used to Euro servers and the game play. But, again, it's always hit and miss with great rounds, but after awhile with the combination of this forum, you get kinda
MUST...HAVE...PROJECT...REALITY :tired:
It's Great Scheiße
