umm, how exactly are laser guided bombs used?

Okay, so I searched the wiki guide, and there is no entry on close air support. can someone explain how LGBs work?

1) Officer or Spec Ops points his binocular thingy at the target and presses the Left Mouse Button, this lases the target. The laser point persists for 15 seconds even if an alternative weapon is selected.

2) Officer or Spec Ops presses T, and selects LASING TARGET, to alert his team that he has set a laser.

3) Using the skillful teamwork and careful planning for which public servers are famous, a player in a fast jet with LGB selected flies over the lased target and a suitably high altitude and drops his bomb. (I am guessing here, I am a shite pilot).

4) Boom and victory.

you have to be above 600whatevers (reading on right side of the HUD have no idea what units its in) wait for pilot to say somthing. then drop.

try to maintain a steady and level flight and drop flares on your attack run.

get it right and you can drop bombs on someones head! as i did on a AA gunner on Kashan

Or you can dumb bomb them, as I did on an AAV on Qinling. 8)

PS: Not recommended as a reliable way. :P

dont keep clicking the soflam, that is really annoying when someone asks you to drop a bomb and all you see is flying boxes.

if you dumb bomb its really 100% guess work with only rely on your altitude and distance to know when to drop.

I thought they didn't detonate if you dropped them without a laser target?

they do, but you must drop them above 500m or they wont arm in time, and dropping them at that altitude is very hard to hit without a lase for the bomb to lock onto ;)

oh so thats why i killed someone when i just dumb dropped the bomb. I thought the actuall bomb maybe had hit someone in the head :P (dropped it before the chatter from the pilot by mistake)

you dont always heat the pilot say "bomb locked on", in fact i never do unless im flying down directly towards the target and then your too low to hit.

Just drop the bomb when your above 600 altitude and see the green box. Works for me. Also, dont forget to drop flares when your going down coz AA is nasty

so, do all planes carry LGBs, or just attack jets? and if you drop an MK82 locked onto a laser, will the MK82 seek out the target and hit it?

User Guide - Project Reality Wiki read it.
Is that what that thing is for? Who knew...

Anyhow, there are already several threads on this. Search function is your friend.

k, only 6 jets used in PR at the moment, the EF2000, J-10, F-16, MiG-29, A-10 and the Su-25.

All but the F-16 and the MiG-29 at this point are equipped with LGBs.
