Bummer the Shoutbox is gone right now
Having a front page update make it to TotalBF2 really helps. Perhaps you guys should go to a weekly update rythm?

Should really bump up the post with the map packs, this way all the new people that have joined us can download them, would be awesome to have El Alamein with a full server

Yes it is alot of fun. The only thing i hate are bf2 maps. PRMM .3 should include all the custom maps so we can run them on normal servers.

For real the custom maps are way better. We need more custom maps.

I bet the trailer had alot to do with the influx of people! That was very well done!
But I agree completely, we need new maps!
The vanilla maps dont cut it.
And Ive said it before, but Ill mention it again here. The maps heliwars, abadan, el alamein, even strike at karkand 2 are just like the vanilla maps. The only reason they are better right now, is because they are still fresh. As a temporary relief map pack, they are good news.
But in long term, we need quality maps that are, like the mod, based on realism.
Im sure the dev team is aware of this, but as i see it, more so than any new vehicles/countries/skins/weapons/skyboxes/prety effects/etc, new maps are the most important part in determining what gameplay is going to be like. This DIRECTLY affects teamplay, and for a mod like project reality, teamplay is why alot of people are attracted to the mod.
So what Im trying to get at is, please include some well thought out, realistic maps for prmm .03, it will help alot in bringing the kind of players you want to see into the mod.

This is exactly why I dont normally play PRRM, or any other vanilla maps with planes. And no offense, buddy, but this is the mentality thats going to ruin the community. Especially at this stage where we need all the players we can get to help the mod bloom. The last thing we need (ESPECIALLY IN GLORYHOUNDS WITH 30 SECOND RESPAWN) are people getting bombed into oblivion every ten seconds.

Well though out? You mean like EL ALAMEIN. A map that my 10 year old cousin could've though of. Just an open area with tons of vehicles. No thanks, man.
But yeah, sarcasm aside. We do need some GOOD maps. Strike At Karkand is a GOOD map. It has a nice combo of vehicles and infantry that make tactics and teamwork a required factor in the map. Need more maps like this!

Hear hear.
Racking up big kills from nuking the ground is a BF2-Vanilla trait.
Well coordinated infantry combat is what PR is all about.
Arcade vehicles + realistic infantry just dont go together.

I wonder how many buildings can be supported on a BF2 map ...
Search for a satellite photo of an urban area ... make BF2 map look like said photo ... done! Instant realism.
Perhaps a new mentality in the map design is needed?
It seems to me the worse vanilla BF2 maps were built
around the CPs.
Make the realistic map
first then put in the CPs in intelligent areas, like a bridge, large entereable building, centre of a cluster of buildings, etc.
Also, maybe make some maps where it seems a battle was already fought, and it is like "the second wave". Have more burning vehicles, destroyed buildings, lots of sandbag bunkers in buildings, on buidlings, around the buidlings ... make it
look like infantry acutally occupied the area.
Probably the most important thing ... use realistic proporitions!
No city in the world has two military airfields less than 2km from eachother ...
Making the map less cluttered with uneccesary "sights" will make the combat more intense. When your in the woods coming up on a village, if the village was the only place with buildings, the defense would probably be situated around them, so there wouldn't be as many people wandering around ...
The more realistic maps the better!

You nailed it there.
I am trying to make a map right now, and I started it all on paper. I am going to see how it turns out (first one) but it should be challenging to play as I started by planning what kind of battle I want to occur on the map.
So for the USMC there will be a push with armor and infantry, and later along the control points you will find yourself moving into a city/village where armor cannot penetrate.
And opposite for the MEC which will have the starting advantage of more owned control points, and the only uncappable.
we shall see I guess

IF you read my entire post, you would realize I am trying to agree with you. Please go back and read it. I dont like the new map pack at all, and there are only 1-2 new maps that I think are actually decent.
Maps I think give good team based gameplay:
Road to Kyongan Ni
Steel Thunder
Gulf of Oman
Oasis
Strike at Karakand (Its getting stale, and the city layout is horrible)
Mashtuur City (the city layout is also horrid)

Mentality that will ruin the communtiy? pshh. So what, im proud that i did so well, its not like I spawn rape, if anyone has ever played with me they would know i would never spawn rape a flag.
Bombing people every ten seconds? oh come on now, being
way too dramatic, i only fly in fighters so its not like i drop as much bombs as the F-15 or SU. I really dislike when people begin to curve their hatred towards aircrafts, Its not my fault people bunched up in the same area, you act like tanks couldnt cause as much damage.
I highly doubt that just because i was flying around and doing some bombing runs,
to aid my team people are gonna get all pissed and leave PRMM forever, when i left for a good couple of hours, i didnt see any drop in people on servers i was lucky to get in the server with it being so crowded.
Hey you like infantry combat, i like air combat, so instead of hating on the people that like planes, just play the maps that dont include them.(no offense)

I would really like to just see a map made up of fields. Fields with tree lines and streams etc etc, with small buildings. So you could run the risk of running as fast as you can through the field, or sneak around the sides in a bush line, or a road, or forest or something. Nor armour or vehicles, just hardcore infantry! Would be great for ambushes!

Evilhomer: I would love a map like this too

That's how I work when I make a map, couldn't think of any other way to do it. Plus, I draw all my maps out on paper first with elevation and Block Planning (thin SimCity). I should scan and post the one for Sundown On Mosul - I had fun drawing that one.

I really think you are going to like SoM, it is this - with some Armor/Vehicle elements balanced in...
