Stock Kits

From what I understand, some of the specialty kits such as Medic or Engineer represent soldiers that have entered the battlefield with suficient training to perform their role. They are not kits that allow soldiers to choose a role once they have already entered the fray.
"Now that I've revived my comerade, I shall now take this kit and repair a bridge." This is unrealistic IMO.
This has been brought up by people before, i may have a solution.
What if there was a standard LA85 kit, an M16A4 kit, G3 kit etc...
This means when a British Medic/ Engineer is killed holding a British kit, he will drop his LA85 kit meaning that anyone that picks it up only has use of his assult rifle, knife, bandages & binocs'...
I've heard of bugs meaning that insurgents using a British medic kit = CTD. It's also unrealistic that an insurgent would have all the knowledge and abilities of a corpsman after picking up his kit. The same goes for the engineer, it seems silly that an insurgent needs to kill a Brit to gain the ability to fix a bridge etc...
I'm at work at the mo', will come back to edit if I have any better ideas for this, your thoughts???

It's a good idea--but would that then mean the medic/engi kits would only be available through the quartermaster?
And I don't think there would be a way for other medics/engineers to pick up that kit and use it's supplies then.
Just some thoughts--I agree the idea makes sense, but I do think the system right now works well.

Engi/Medic should only be available from the spawn screen.

You have a good point, This would mean that other medics can't use fallen medic kits... i didn't think that far ahead... doh!

Ive heard before that BF2 engine is only able to make kits, you cant pick up just the rifle, of course let the DEVs confirm that

I agree its unrealistic but it also seems inevideable
Edit: I agree with the insurgent thing, im sure you could restrict insurgents from picking up hostile kits, but it also restricts them from using their rifles, which probably wont be fair

basicly true, but it might be possible to delete the kit, and spawn simltanios an other kit, with the rifle geometry and just the rifle, knive and a bandage, could be considered, but I'm afraid, that it could get a bit laggy

Nearly every time an insurgent kills a Brit, He'll grab the Brit kit. This is a must and we can't loose this from the game. I just don't imagine the insurgent knowing how to use all of the equiptment.
I'm not suggesting that rifles should be dropped and picked up (not possible), like my 1st post said, stock kits!
To really work, a dead Brit medic should drop a stock LA85 kit, if another medic tries to pick up said kit, he should recieve a medic kit. If anyone else picks it up, they should recieve the stock LA85 kit.

Why would they need to do that other then to pickup ammo? Or is that the reason?

But then the unlimited kits really should be requestable. Only in the main.
There should be a way to get a new kit without getting killed. Going to the base and requesting a new kit simulates being a new soldier after it.
Just my 1.4 Euro Cents.

Ghost1800 wrote:There would have to be a few "stock" kits around then to accommodate all the various weapons that wouldn't necessarily need a whole lot of training. For example a marksmans or Automatic Riflemans weapon probably wouldn't need a whole lot of ingenuity to pick up and use (well... it'd be nice if the reloading on them was slower, but anyway).
I dont think kits such as these would need a "stock kit". Things such as the shockpads, I believe are a placeholder for the ability for a medic to be able to revive someone in a slightly more complicated manner than just touching him with a couple of wireless sanders. When I first said "specialty kits" thats kinda what I was trying to get at.
Ghost1800 wrote: However, stuff like a AT or MANPADs would probably be a bit too tricky to just pick up and use if your not familiar with the equipment.
I agree... Currently I think there's a lot of deveation added to weapons like these so simulate you readying the weapon, sometimes a bit too much for a trained soldier. If this was kept in such a way for factions like the insurgents but reduced for trained soldier factions it would be mint but probably time consuming to implement.
Ghost1800 wrote:So you would likely have stock kits that include just a sidearm and a bandage for H-AT and pilot, scoped rifles with grenades for Officer and Rifleman, unscoped rifles for the other base kits, and then you would likely have to include the primary gun for every other kit without supplying any of the equipment like SLAMs, AA, trip flares, etc.
I don't necessarily agree with this, "war veterans" afterall would have some kind of knowledge...
I just think that the medic and engineer are the ones really at issue here, possible a couple others.

Imagine a soldier gets injured on the front line and gets transported back to base because theres no medics around. He would have to run back to the barracks, into the "medic tent"
There he could choose to be a medic and heal himself. You would see a wounded soldier go in and soon after a medic deployed back to the front lines.

Its also pretty unrealistic to revive bullet-riddled corpses with a set of defrillibrators.
Edit: Smeg is that pic from Company of Heroes?

Yeah thats from coh Yeah it could be nice to be able to set medic tents and they should not be 20 metres from a bunker or firebase.

Medic tents have been mentioned countless times but are pointless cos of the lack of sustaining injuries (broken legs etc). The whole defibs thing is a metaphor for getting up heavily wounded players rather then dead ones. Head shots and big explosions kill players so that's not the issue, especially when you take body armour into account.

I like the original idea.
Im thinking it could be possible though.
If you are a civilian....and you pick up a kit....you die.
So there is a way to distiguish what is picked up.....its just a matter of limiting WHAT is picked up, right?
I like this idea though, and I agree.
No
average insurgent should be able to run a defib....and even if instructions were written on the side....they would be in english too, right?
