Pick up parachutes

To avoid to give every player class parachutes (again) but also to have the opportunity to jump out of a transport helicopter the units who enter it should have the possibility to pick up parachutes (no kits, only the parachutes) from a specific spot at the main airfield.

The parachutes should be in limited amount and visible - on a table, inside a rack or whatever.

As a unit who used a parachute died and respawned or disconnected or switched the team the parachute should reappear after a short amount of time.

Optionally it should be possible to "use" the parachute as a weapon slot and hold it straight to a pal and hold the left mouse button for 10 seconds or so to give it to the pal.

if you had to get a new kit for the chute, then kits would be limited.

Not sure if this could work, but:
leave a weapon slot open, and to get a chute you have to go to "ammo box/chute storage crate" and refill your chute (like ammo), it is a one use thing too.

Like I said, not sure it is possible....

well, it could be possible, with scripting, so that you always have your chute, but it gets enabled by a certain action

make a airborn kit that is used to air drop to a location
then if your sl is with you then he can just create an rp at a safe spot near the dz then the rest of you squad can get new kit

Well if you make an airborne kit then you would need a new faction, at least for the us because the usmc doesn't have an airborne branch for obvious reasons.

There is already an Airborne copy-kit of the 4 (not the fifth [Officer] yet) basic kits for every factions, USMC included. The use of airborne basic kits is map wise, meaning some maps have them, and some don't.

BTW, Until Officer kit gets his parachute so that RPs are possible, Airborne will be only experimental.

Isn't there a map in the works (check community forums) that is having the Russians para in to take out cashes? Obviously kits are there for that, and the idea is being implemented. I think we could use that map to test the feasibility of the idea.

Yeah, jonny is spot on. The kit pythons are very complicated with the number of kits currently present, adding parachutes would mean that each class would be doubled, with it's clone having a parachute. Of course several classes would have to have an item removed to fit them, so you have yet more trouble. Map specific it works, but to incorporate it into the request menu would be ridiculous. Adding them as pickup kits might work, but still a pain.

Why couldnt the kit be requested from the QM only.
Limit the kit as others are currently limited, So only so many are allowed in game for per team at a time.
Make it non-requestable unless you are in a squad...AND...your SL has to be equipped with a chute 1st.

The above parameters would keep "lonewolves" from just chuting any and everywhere. The argument could be made that people will create a squad, become SL and lock the squad. I would remedy this by only allowing the kits the limited must need items...so they are ineffective alone.

Jonny wrote:because you get the same problems as I have already said. Its way too complicated to make it work and cant be map specific without copying the entire faction.
Why does the entire faction have to be copied?
Not all kits have to be airbourne.

I could care less if chutes were included in the first place. I was merely trying to participate in the subject at hand.

Jonny...I am not disputing your knowledge of the game and its limitations and I am sure you're very intelligent in regard to such.
But occassionally....you come off as being such a pompous friggin' know-it-all.

Occasionally.

You make a good point moonpie, but ultimately this decision is in the hands of the mapper and the DEVs. Parachutes can be implemented, but it's a clumsy system, so I think the OP has been answered.

But occassionally....you come off as being such a pompous friggin' know-it-all.
I'll hold my tongue on this one.

The entire faction would have to be copied because:
  1. Any changes you make to the QM system for a faction on one map (i.e., adding a limited number of 'chute kits) are carried across to all other maps with that faction.
  2. So, if you want to have 'chutes only on SOME maps, you need to create USMCCOPY and add 'chutes to it.
  3. You then use USMC on all maps without 'chutes, and USMCCOPY on the maps that need it.
  4. THEN you need to do the same for every other faction that uses 'chutes - PLA, MEC and GB.
  5. Result: 8 standard factions instead of 4. Bingo, instant and fairly substantial increase in the size of the mod, for a very limited result.

Makes sense....same for jonny's post. ;)

Make it available for all maps?
