Clip Sharing?

Would it be possible say for one person to give a Clip/Magazine to another person? If they both have the same weapon? Or one that fires the same kind of ammo? Yes i got the idea from Cod4. Except my idea is not just one person being dead and picking up his ammo. It would work like this.

You are an Engineer and your buddy is Rifleman, After an Intense fire fight deep in enemy territory, You have 4 spares left he has only 3, He has no ammo bag left after using it for a previous encounter, Now say i would give him two of my Spares, Because he needs it more then me, And can put it to better use.

If possible it would not just be for the same guns like L85, G3, M16, etc etc. It would be for all the weapons that have the same ammo capacity and ammo type.

Like the L85, M16, M4, L119, and L86.

Or the G3, M14.

Etc etc.

Possible or Hardcoded.

EDIT: Didn't opk have an AK-74u in 2 slots that shared ammo amongst its suppressed version? Or was that USI?

I was actually thinking of this idea. I think it is possible with the maglink function. What would be needed is a generic magazine model, appropriate animations and a spare weapon slot (say "0"?).

You know i didn't understand a word of what you said. But i get what you mean. But wait doesn't that only work for single shot weapons? Like the Sraw and GL?

There are two maglink functions for sharing ammunition between weapons. One shares the ammo source AND the ammo loaded in the magazine and the other one just shares the ammo source. The latter could be used to link the ammo source of the main weapon to the ammo source of a "magazine throwing" weapon. You could give an ammo type to each calibre and make each thrown mag supply a specific amount of rounds, if I am not mistaken.

Would be really nice to be able to throw clips to people. I've thought about this, too.

Your rifleman should have reloaded his ammobag when he put his down. 'Nuff said.

The only major problem with this (assuming nedlands is right, which I feel is a pretty safe assumption) is the whole "need a weapon slot" thing. Engineer is maxed out, so are several other classes. Implementing it across the board would be hard.

*sigh* The lets pretend that hes a Medic or Officer! Jesus christ it's a hypothetical situation. Get it Hypothetical to Illustrate your Hypothesis.

TBH if youve used up your ammo, you either could do with either adjusting your aim, yelling at your squad leader to get someone to spawn ammo, or pull back a bit to rearm, with the new rifleman kits both carrying ammo theres no reason to run out of ammo, because unless your a highly specalist team, you will have atleast one.

And if you dont, then pull back to a friendly veichle and hope the last driver didnt ditch its supply ammo at main.

However thats not saying i wouldnt love this if you could impliment this, mabey just add it to the commo rose, "drop mag" then a seconday menue pops up and shows you how many rounds you want to drop.

Would be cool, especialy seen as belt fed weapons are always used as ammo supply in tight spots in real life. And would possibly even remove the need to give all the rifleman kits their ammo bags, and put that back to 0.7, currently the new way dosn't really leave much place for the iron sight rifleman.

It's just not worth it though. I have maybe completely run out of ammo maybe 1 time while playing 0.75. Ammo is just so plentiful and your chance of surviving so low that it is not really worth it to do all that work.

This has been suggested before. Engine limitations.
