Airborne Limited (Al Basrah)

Playing Al Basrah last night, me and my squad were guarding two caches in close proximity to each other across from mosque. Every attempt the british made to attack cache ended in failure. Then, what do I see... an entire squad parachuting into the city. My first thought was what a great idea since the entrances to the city were well guarded. I then realised once the Airborne guys reached the ground, they were armed with nothing more than a pistol due to only pilot kits having parachutes and they were soon sent to the great beyond by PKM,s, AK47 and RPG fire. They were simply outgunned and didnt have a chance. They continued this method of attack the rest of thre round only to end in death. I wil be the first to admit that parachuting into a hostile city surounded by armed insurgents is not realistic, but it deffiinately added another dimension and element of action to the map. I would love to see a limited Airborne kit for british on al Basrah. It was awesome seing thiose guys parachuting in. Give the kit a parachute, non-scoped rifle, binocs, and a bandage. Just an idea and not sure how the Devs feel about adding this class the the map, but it added and entire new element to the map last night that was both exciting, tactical and awesome.......

There are already parachute-equipped templates for every class in the game, and they seem to have shot down your limited Airborne kit idea lots of times. Good luck keeping the thread unlocked...

I was there for the two rounds the TG guys were falling out of the sky. First round, I was on the same team with them. Some despised the method, but I commended the new dimension of the battlefield. They'd bail over the city, parachute, land, grab weapons off caches/spawns/Mosque, and destroy the caches with Molotovs.

Second round, I was Ins against them. Each round was different as Tweaky pointed out, and their method didn't go so well. The Insurgents were prepared.

I am usually the ring-leader organizing these paradrop squads. I can tell you that sometimes it works, other times it fails miserably, but EVERY time it is unbelievably fun!

The regulars that join my squad are quite proficient at finding caches on the way down to the city, or at least an enemy rally point where we can find a weapon. Most of us can land within 1 square foot of our intended drop point, & most of us can keep a good kill: death ratio of 1:1 or better. The problem is not me or my TG guys, it's the random players that join our squad that want to try it. They don't know how to jump and often splatter against the merlin on the way out, despite SL instructions on how to do it. They also don't know how to land on a target, and often land in very hot zones and die quickly...again, despite SL instructions. Worst case scenario: one of them tries to fly the merlin and crashes it, which really hurts the team.

Overall, it is a BLAST to try the paradrop tactic. We certainly can't get away with it on the more strict "TG" server...but on servers like .:thebattlearena:. and other servers that allow a little more flexibility and a little more fun, it really is a great break from the normal "tactics" and a good challenge to test your close-quarter skills since you only have a pistol! Yes, certain games look bad...with 10 kills and 25 deaths, a shot down merlin, etc...BUT, in every game we have done this, we have found 2-5 of the 9 total caches, destroyed most of them, eliminated snipers on tall rooftops, and targeted civilians on the ground to land behind and knife. There will always other players joining us that want to have fun and try it, and they might bring down our stats and hurt the team to some degree. I let them join because having fun is really what is important in the end. I try and monitor how close the game is, and if we are getting hammered on tickets, I drop in more conservative LZ's. But I must say, to anyone that argues that this tactic should NEVER be done, or doesn't help the team...in my opinion, is overlooking a great tactic and is taking a less-serious server like thebattlearena a bit too seriously.

p.s. we came to your server after tba server crashed, and it was much harder to survive on Operation Archer due to less cloud cover and better players...but it sure was fun! Good job on defending against it.

I would like to see a airborn class in al basrah but the pilot should not bail out with the rest of his squad that just hurts the team by losing the merlin. I dont like losing the merlin thats why you guys got kicked one time.

Really funny to watch you crazy TG guys landing in the mosque and pwning the insurgents.
