Suppressed Weapons

Seeing that suppressed pistols have been introduced into PR through the new .75 patch, I'm curious to know if we can expect more suppressed weapons in future PR releases. The new pistols are excellent at causing confusion and disarray with their victims who evidently have no idea where the shots are coming from. Given the added ability to dispatch enemies silently at close range w/ the aid of the black death screen, the Spec Ops kit in the hands of a judicious and skilled player is now quite a force to be reckoned with.

I would personally like to see more suppressed weapons introduced to other classes that need to deal with stealth, namely the sniper. Give it a silenced pistol to make things right. Perhaps reinstate the Mk.12 sniper rifle as a extremely limited pickup kit? As with the Spec Ops kit, perhaps give it an optional suppressed version of the default carbine, which shares the same ammo. Give the suppressed version less damage per shot and more bullet drop (but obviously more range than the pistol). If balance is an issue, maybe add a slightly larger sound signature for the suppressed rifles as compared to the that of the pistols (audible within ~20-30m). I'm not suggesting that there should be a considerable widespread increase of suppressed weapons, but rather continue to keep them limited to the appropriate roles and add a bit more versatility and punch to their stealth factor.

hm i don't see the point of having a suppressed sniper rifle. The main aspect of having a suppressor on a sniper rifle is to minimize the muzzle flash to a minimum. The engagement distance of a sniper is usually should be more than 200meters on Kashan or on Archer i would say its above 400meters. Nobody can hear you from that distance, espacially when you put him a bullet directly between his eyes.

If you have the M4 suppressed you have to lower the damage...i hope your good in putting down headshots in CQB. This would be the only way to survive if they see you.. the ak and the g3 are killing you with 2 hits! i prefer the m4 as it is

btw: i think the MK12 is more a DMR because its semi automatic (am i right?) It has too much moving parts and that means less accuracy

Hear, hear!

I was thinking of how a small calibre hunting rifle with a D.I.Y plastic bottle suppressor would be an appropriate weapon for the militia due to their stealthy nature. Apparently such weapons are quite popular in the region. The Russian's have even developed a weapon specifically for the task (Source: SV-99 Sniper Rifle.).

It's selective fire. And yes, it is a DMR.

yeah that could be really nice.

Also giving the sniper a pistol with a suppressor.. sure, why not.
Silenced sniper rifles? Silenced carbines? No thanks.

I agree Saint, a real sniper kills someone with 1 shot. But maybe is it for SF.

Hm... if you could get weighted balance (i.e. 12 on one team, 52 on the other) you could give the 12 SF weapons (Bringing back the wonderful crossbows) and have a new gametype... not that it'd be realistic, but it'd be fun! And I don't know of any games that put a few versus a lot...

If we could get a right-click right-click menu for kit requesting....

True that the M4 when suppressed has a slower velocity, but if I recall, there is a load for that that has a heavier bullet(not sure how) to compensate for the slower speed

Wouldn't that kill the range even more?

The talk is about damage ;-)

I don't see a need for suppressed rifles/carbines. I think silenced pistols are enough.

AND games and movies gave most a complete wrong impression of suppressors, they are far away from beeing silent, so if you want to kill silent, take your knive

or pack a mag of subsonic bullets. :P
From videos that I've seen subsonic bullets coupled with a suppressor are extremely silent.

If you make it heavier, wind will influence it less. A downside to these slow rounds is the curved trajectory. You have to compensate for drop a whole lot more than with a rifle firing supersonic rounds. Due to the increased momentum, compared to a light round travelling at a similar velocity, a heavier round will penetrate more effectively.

@ mammikoura: yes subsonic bullets can be quite silent, but most weapons with silencer can't even shoot this bullets. (since they have lower muzzel velocity, many weapons tend to jamm with them)

One solution being a weapon with integrated suppressor.

I always suggested giving all the Special Operations classes the MP5SD instead of a Carbine and pistol. Its less leet than that M4A1, useful for self defence and for being silent, while not being uber in any way. And its one model for probably every army. US uses the MP5 i'm sure, i saw a picture of a MP5 in the british army on this very forum, MEC is using the G3 series anyway, Militia could get the MP5 quite cheap (maybe without burst mode) and China... i dont know that one for sure. With only a few mags the weapon will force the player not to spam all his ammo and actually be silent, and in the hand of a good player its a deadly combination of the silenced pistol and the already good MEC's MP5.

But thats just my two cents, i dont know how realistic a weapon like this really is.

And now i should shut up before i get flamed... *throws smoke grenade, empties mag and runs*

well if a mk12 was shooting subsonic ammo in pr no one would want to use it, first off. a 5.56mm going subsonic is not going to go through much at point blank. i did a little test just to see how hard it would be to shoot something in pr with subsonic ammo and real gravity, anything past about 100m would be hard to hit if not moving , and if jonny gets drag into pr right then the m12 with subsonic ammo would be worse then rocks.

I thought that was the Mk11/SR25 which is the new sniper weapon of the USMC (7.62, not 5.56, and comes with a supressor), a much better choice for this catagory.

Mk-11 has been adopted by the USMC as another tool in the box for their scout-snipers and it may eventually replace all of their in-house produced M14 DMRs (which are now mostly in MP SRT, EOD and MCSF/MSG units, from what I understand). As of last October, however, the Marines are also starting to introduce the Mk-12, which may replace the SAM-R in the rifle companies.

Eddie, I'm pretty sure the Mk11 is not used as a DMR in the USMC (perhaps the Army), it was produced with the intention of being an urban replacement for the M-40 (and as such is every bit as accurate).
