Fact : At that distance, you'd be dead long before even hearing or seeing the atom mushroom spreading. The heat would just melt anything over the whole map to the point it would be a flat molten land.
I tell you, if there is something not to mess with, it's nukes. And if militia came over one .. God .. Teh NATO leetzorz would have a hard time whatsoever.

Adding Nukes Wont Be fair for maps like insurgency... in real life i dont think that armys using nukes agaisnt insurgents.. but maybe making a nuclear mod with a team that defend the nuke device and second team have to defuse/disarm the nuke with wrench or something..
Defuse the Nuke Game mode: Fairly good suggestion if this was PR:SF
hm... we could do that... bring in Surge as a map, defuse the nuke in 60 minutes or boom!
You know, they were shipping a nuke, but were ambushed... so they set a timer!
Maybe a SF mini-mod for each of the maps (or a few, whatever)

A game mode involving terrorist/insurgency elements where the siren comes up near the end of the shortened timer and then a nuke goes off killing everyone would be interesting.
On the size of current maps, unless the biggest map available, even a battlefield nuke might just vaporise the entire landscape in mere seconds. Wouldn't be much of a visual effect, more a brightening out of the screen then blackness!
I don't think we should ever having military forces using nukes. Western forces should never use them, communist forces driven by dubious leadership maybe use them dependent on conditions back home, terrorists and insurgencies could represent the mentally deranged side of things. But how they got the nuke is debateable.
Maybe instead of pure nukes, there should be dirty nukes for visual effect. A large explosion, then darkening of the sky with a cloud of dirty radiated clouds, then colours go to grey and troops in the path get wounded slowly, then die. But I very much doubt the engine would allow changes in environment mid round and of course clouds mean lagging!

Hope you all realize Im joking, but it would b e funny to have that like after 2 or 3 hours with conventional armies Ok its been 3 hours sine you started finding those weapon caches, pull back to the airport and nuke the area and be done with it Id laugh my butt off at that, maybe be up in the air with the Merlin or Chinook when it goes off at palace and watch all the caches disappear in 5 seconds Kashan, you have a problem in capturing the bunkers? Vaporize them and you have no more problem.
Though ona serious note, the idea of a Nuke gametype using maps like Surge actually sounds pretty good, send in SF to defuse it in an hour, or the device explodes. Honestly this would be good for the Russian mod, have the Spetsnaz like in vBF go intoa surge like map try to defuse the device. Only problem I see is that all the militia or insurgents or rebels or whatever will just sit at the device all the time, so you'd need like CQ points, like a fueling station, mission control, and something along the lines of weapon caches, but instead of caches, have equipment for launching of the missle, and destroy those things before you go to the device to defuse it.

Hmm i never seen a nuke truck in the game. even in the training mod..i seen the hovering plane but not with a nuke..
i think that the plane that throw the nukes is bugged or something..
but still, nuke against insurgents sound stupid to me.. insurgent are type of rioting civis..
a radiactivty cloud could be good but i think it cant be too big due BF2 engine.. and it good idea that the cloud slowly decrase soliders health near the area.. maybe instead nukes do checmical rockets etc.. because nukes are very deadly.. especally agaisnt insurgents(they dont even have armor)

Disarming mode does sounds interesting but as its been said, that would be for special Forces. Doesn't fit with PR actual version.

Hmm... maybe just a dirty bomb... Not the special crushing explosion as with a nuke, but just a bit of uranium put in with the bomb... could that be the Insurgent JDAM? Suicide truck, except with a 1,000 pound bomb on the back, and has a radiation poisoning effect... Or something like that.
Anyway, with a nuke, anything within 5 miles is vaporized, 20 gets the 200 MPH winds, and anything beyond that gets a ton of radiation in the stratosphere...
