Hovering when shooting

This suggestion is about the attack choppers and LB's
What enoys me is the thing that you cant fire you rocketpods or Miniguns when hovering, if we could adjust the rocket pods and miniguns at limited angles we could hover while shooting.

its a bit weard that you have to strafe run you target instead of just like hovering and shoot a barrage of Rockets.

if you have to do a strafing run you somtimes crash becouse you cant pull up quik enough, or are verry low at the ground and makes you an easy target.

For the littlebird, its enoying that you cant hover in urban environments like in muttrah back in 0.5, i got shotdown becouse becouse i coulndt hover and shoot at the same time, so the AA got me

some video, where you see Apaches hovering and shooting

it was just some idea i had to get in a topic :)

Thanks for reading

But you can hover and shoot. Thats all i do when being a gunner or pilot of a gunship, and its pretty easy to take out every target that comes along, my adivce is to find a good gunship pilot and get to a high altitude, from my experience hovering is fairly easy, albeit, if the pilot gives a vigorous movment, you can forget hitting a target with that Missile!

I see your point about Littlebirds, but the Job of littlebird attack choppers is strafing. You have said it yourself, the armour of a littlebird is Nil, hence the need to keep on the move. It is a huge help if you can get people to designate targets with either smoke or Lazers, then, you can fly in low and fast, get the job done and then pull out, fast.

Im talking about Rocket pods (the anti infantry conentration rockets)
not the Hellfire missile

Ah ok. Although they aint specifically anti infantry.

But what i said about the littlebirds is still in context.

havent we had this discussion already? the MG's of all small armed helos are fixed in reality so you cant hover and aim.
for the issue that you cant divestrafe blame the descend speed which enables the huey to fly upside down ( agonizing..)

well atleast the apache can

howd you wanna do that, the apache is darn nervous around the centre and giving them to the copilot would leave us pilots emptyhanded

how about you can adjust them with 2 keys up and down a bit so you can hover and change the angle of youre rocket pods?

Whats the problem with strafing? Its not all that hard, and your gunner has his MG for a reason

MG?

What an understatement. :D

Arjan, you still can't fly IMO.

And I think it would take too much time or work for just something what won't be very effective ingame.

If you crash because you wanted to hav3 t3h killz0rz. you deserve to crash.

When you crash because you didn't have time or because there was a tree. Than try to avoid these scenario's.

the way it is now. is perfect.

LOL ^^

better than you :D
,,

But i think it will, a chopper could stay in the treeline without having to get out of the save spot to fire his rocket pods. i know joint operations typhoon rising has that stuff(anyone played that game?), and its realy nice you can hover youre bird when shooting at the hostiles with ure rocketpods

In my opinion the hydras are only for AA engagement. Let your gunner do the rest, he has the firepower to it there is no need to use the hydras on ground targets.

Arjan, if your in the position where you have to use hydras your probably doing something wrong. Like i said, your gunner has his MG for a reason, and i suggest that you fly the chopter and let him do the killing. Its afterall his job.

I dont think i've ver used hydras in 0.75 yet...

I believe that a very simple solution would be to simply "zero" the Hydras a few degrees below the horizontal plane. This way, when a pilot fires a Hydra, it shoots out 5 - 10 degrees below his plane of flight. It may not be enough for the helo to hover and use Hydras, but at least you would be able to travel in a more shallow dive to line up your target.

Its not a perfect solution, but its worth exploring. Does anyone know how Hydras are targeted / used IRL? As far as I know they are dumb munitions, just point and shoot. So how does an Apache hover horizontally and use those weapons?

This I agree with. Save those hydras for anti air duties, believe me, they are very useful. But still, I usually have my gunner do everything, including taking out enemy choppers. :)

I think he just wants a accurate depiction of the apache, if that is how it is IRL, then there is certainly a case for it

btw, hated the music on the vid

Yeah hydras are dumb ammo, they are not accurate and are only used in clearing a certain sector.

I've never needed to use them at all.
