Hi all, i'm an old player, i play since 0.3, but i play 0.1 too, and, for me, the best map which ever exist, is al basrah in 0.5

-the 2 Black Hawk
-the 2 Cobras
-the 2 A10
-Facility and his famous rockets
-the insurgent with RPG 7 and AK
-North VCP plane training
-village weapon caches
-m95 at american main base
-American on Al Basrah
-more vehicules than ever on a PR map
-the cooperation between all troops for a nice play
-VOIP
-the request of air support
-the black hawk down in the city
-the SVD alone insurgent sniper
-a very friendly map, the ambush on the bridge at the north of north VCP
-the insurgent tank
-the insurgent VAB
-2 fire at the same time with rocket on a cobra to destroy it
-Facility hard battle, the key of the round!
-flag to take
-the snipers who are everywhere
-In one word : AL BASRAH

Who never think to play it again?

I want to have al basrah like in 0.5 for the 0.8, with the 0.8 gameplay, of course, this is the best map i've ever played, and for a lots of player too, i was doing my best round on it, and i want to do my best round on it.
It will be a very good present for all the community, to let them play this fantastic map again!! with the destructible house!

Thanks to read this, and continue on this way!!

No. It sucked. A lot. Playing as INS was probably the worst experience PR has had to offer.

well i think quite a few people would disagree about it sucking. for all the complaints about it, it was still the most fun ive had in pr {on the old devfile server}. it was somewhat of a fragfest, but to me it kinda seemed like a really large scale siege like fallujah in 04. its more realistic now that the brits are in basrah like in real life. by the way, i think the upcoming fallujah map will satisfy our appetites for some urban USMC vs insurgent action, we have been sorely lacking in it for some time now. until then you can always play the single player PR mod, it has a version of basrah with the usmc like in .5, with all the newer stuff like scopes etc.

Bullsh!t! .5 Basrah was awesome! There was more teamwork there than on any map back then and has been since!

I don't think I would go as far as to agree that 0.5 Basrah was the height of PR in all of its glory. However... I would definately like to see both Basrah, and the new Operation Archer, made into AAS maps in addition to being insurgency maps.

Not everyone likes the pace and patience required for insurgency gameplay. Would it be possible to revamp Basrah and Archer? Throw in a bunch of CP's, add in some additional vehicles and defences, and have a full on conflict?

For Basrah I could see the map transformed into a Counter-Attack game mode where the Brits must push in to the city with their early advantage of having air power combined with Light Armored support. Then the insurgents get access to the insurgent tanks and APCs to combat the brits and push back. A steady supply of manpads and a ring of AAA at the Insurgent Palace keeps the British Air units balanced. The British would have no MBT to call upon and thus would have to co-ordinate their air groups to take on Insurgent armor.

CPs would consist of
- Vehicle Checkpoint (starts as British, cannot be capped till after counter-attack)
- West Village
- Facility
- Port
- Mosque
- Palace

Village, Facility, Port and Mosque can all be capped in any order, a la Zatar Wetlands. However all of them must be controlled before the Palace can be assaulted.

Anybody else liking this idea? Note that this would not in any way affect insurgency gameplay. So don't post here saying that we're ruining your cache hunt.

well i think in real life, an insurgent army would have a really hard time actually holding any ground against a real army like the USMC or british. and actually capturing ground i think would be impossible. thats why i like the insurgency mode, cuz the insurgetns are on the defense like they are supposed to be.

This, I think, is an easy problem to solve. Simply roll back the clock, and instead of having Basrah take place today against the insurgents, have it take place back during the original invasion of Iraq against the Iraqi Guard. This way the Coalition forces are fighting against an organized opposing force that can effectively hold its ground.

What are you smoking?

Everyone camped the airfield because they were all waiting for the A10, transport choppers, and attack helos, so maybe like 10 people were actually looking for caches or insurgents. There were also no destructable buildings and the Facility was a fragfest/killzone that the Americans couldn't hold for longer than 5 minutes.

The current Basrah is miles ahead of the old one.

.5 Basrah was the worst piece of **** I ever played. Hell, I liked it LESS than Operation Phoenix. A **** load less.

Rounds consisted of:

Spawn. Get noobtoob'd.
Spawn. Get A10'd.
Spawn. Run a bit. Get A10'd.
Spawn. Run a bit. Get LAT'd.
Spawn. Run a bit. Get A10'd.
Spawn. Run a bit. Get LAT'd.
Spawn. Run a bit. Get noobtoob'd.
Spawn. Run a bit. Get noobtoob'd just before the A10 kills everyone right where you where.

Repeat.

Also, it we HAD to have a counter attack mode of an insurgent map, it would have to have the conventional force on the defense at first.

Nah.. Basrah/Insurgency is much better now. The constant storming of the NVP was soooo boring.. ruined 0.5 Basrah.

However I DO MISS Xtract on old Basrah. That was a blast.

BAAAHAHAHAHAHAHA!

HAHAHAHAHA!

This post is the funniest post ever.

Basrah was unfun for both the Insurgents AND the US infantry. It was a horrible map for teamwork and urban combat because even with 64 players there would be very little of either of those going on. The US had hardly any infantry to take flags because plenty of retards wanted to fly or drive something and the insurgents were completely at the mercy of US airpower. The assets just made no sense either. A-10's aren't used in heavily populated areas are they? Insurgents with tanks and APC's? Large numbers of AA gun emplacements?

Oh and the old Insurgent kit loadouts were pretty bad. Forget being refilled with ammo if you were an RPG gunner because no one went policeman instead preferring War Vet.

Xtract was actually pretty fun though. I'd like to see it return to Basrah.

I love the old Al Basrah, spent countless hours of having fun on Thor's 24/7 Al Basrah server - and the insurgents were less underpowered than they are now although I agree that the "new" Al Basrah is more realistic.
I just miss the typical gameplay/feeling you used to have on that map, it's just not the same and imho the map's now less fun to play than before - I just hope that the US Army vs Ins map that is supposed to be coming will reflect some of the things I encountered while playing the old Al Basrah.

Thanks to all for your answer.

But, the one who say : "al basrah was a camper map and a nooby map" is just the one who play it at the begining, you know, when all the noobs coming, and after 2 weeks, they go away and stay only teamplay!!
I was loving play on the thors, like phoenix, it was amazing, i never see so much teamplay in my life!!
Have you play it at the end of the 0.5?? no noob, only teamplay!!

But i know if we put another time albasrah like 0.5, it will be boring, that's why we have to keep the one of the 0.7, but with the old flag, the old weapon caches, the old army!!

I think it can really be good!

Basrah 0.5 was good, but British Basrah is better.

As has been mentioned, insurgency mode is a more realistic portrayal of the insurgent team.

If we were to bring back an AAS basrah then the insurgents would need tweaking, especially if they still get the civi kit since getting the civ doesnt really give benefits to the attacking team like it does in insurgency mod.

BUT, there something we can't forget, on 0.5, 3 servers mini were plenty and on al basrah, now, if there one on al basrah with mor than 20 gamers, it's fantastic!!

But, one not cancel another! we can play the both!!

well no point in arguing about it, its not coming back. like i said i think the upcoming fallujah map will make us forget about .5 basrah

.5 Basrah was fun, but it had little teamwork/teamplay and theoretically if played right, USMC should be capping out the Insurgents on every round, but the player side "bug" usually left 32 Insurgents sitting at Facility and ambushing the same people in the same tank on the same spot for one hour.

On Devfile we managed to hold Village as Insurgents and once the lone wolfs gave up, we just sat there until US bleeded out.

The worst BF2 smacktards wanted to play the map, I saw dozen ways to teamkill for a single A10 on Basrah in those days, shooting them out with M95, using the Abrams to rip apart the car pool and all assets, blocking the A10 with forklifts...
