Firebases and Bunkers - use them, always!

Based on my experience, Firebases and Bunkers play a crucial role in Project Reality. And I mean *crucial* - strategic and tactic!
Yet, it is amazing how many rounds I play with NO single Firebase/Bunker on the map! Not a single one!
As a squad leader my first job is to take a truck, ask commander for a build order and order my squad to build a firebase. I can't even think of another start of the round.
Many, many, many times I see truck sitting quietly at the main base or next to command post and all squads moving around on foot. That's what I call wasting resources.
FFS, use trucks, build all possible firebases and bunkers (2 + 2 = 4, no matter how many CP the team own) and then move on. They provide Heavy AT, ammo, repair, spawn point (bunker is a must to defend), you name it!
Commanders, please advice your SLs to use trucks right at the begining of the round! Not later! If required, tell them to wait next to command post until trucks get spawned!

One problem I belive there is, is that some people dont know where to properly place assets such as Firebases or Bunkers. If placed incorrectly they become spam fests for any oe within range.
I do agree that they provide a key tactical advantage. I cant remember how many battles Ive done when we havnt had a commander and becuase of that we have lost the tactical advantage as we charge forwards and then end up with no serious spawn locations bar rally points.

Well the problem is the lack of commanders.. let alone decent commanders.
You yourself state 'when i'm squad leader..' .. why not 'when i'm commander..'.. as that is what is really needed.

I am relatively new/noob in PR (3-4 months) and purposly avoided being a commander until 2-3 weeks ago. You know, to command a squad or a team, some experience is required.
Actualy, the reason I opened this topic is exactly because I started to play commander, when in a mood. So said, I should correct myself: "when I am a squad leader OR a commander"
You are right - the commander is the one to force SLs to use assets properly.
Anyway, I just wanted to emphasize the extremely important role the commander's assets play in PR, unfortunately very often neglected by the team leaders (CO and SL).

Because being a squad leader is much less stressful position?
If you have an issue with somebody in you squad you can just kick him out of it.
If you have an issue with one or more squads what can you do?

Pseudocode:
Code: Select all
repeat {
Talk.
Insist.
Behave.
Talk.
Ask.
Order.
Teach by example.
Talk.
Learn.
Communicate.
Be nice.
Be anger.
Think.
Talk.
etc.
}
until false
The point is it takes time, requires experience and depends on the team as a whole. After all, that's why I like PR
But you drove me out of the topic, which was particulary related to Firebases and Bunkers.

aaah. commander on a pub without a clue is better than no commander if he's capable of getting an officer kit, setting a cmd post and giving build orders.
usually there are no FBs or Bunkers coz there is no commander. if there is one, i personally spam them all over the map

. it's a great way to canalize the blue hordes btw. setup only one bunker at the flag that's to be defended and whoooosh you have lots of blue guys there

(often, it doesn't help, though ...)

I often get tired of squads that don't listen as commander, or blue guys sitting around, doing nothing, when they could be shoveling their spawnpoint. Then someone takes off with the support truck, abandon it at enemy lines and get blown up by a tank. >.>
Then there are the golden players that make me command for them, squads that follow orders and offer to help build and set bases. Still, someone could drive off with the truck. >.>

I found it is really hard to make SLs to take a truck and follow commander's (build) orders. I realize, I, as a commander, must get in the truck and take it to the build position myself. Surprisingly, it helps a lot! It looks like they (SL) are just too "lazy" to drive the truck, but if commander brings the truck at their current position ("I am still too lazy to move") they are much more willing to obey BUILD ORDERS.
So, I do it this way: sit at command post, take a truck, find a SL at good, prospective FB position, tell him to STAY THERE and wait for me, go there, issue a build order. Voila

.... i always support playing in tactics when at sometimes i forget it my self
i totaly agree and actuely server admins should post that as a messege in the main upper HQ screen board

The problem is commanders. Either there is none of no one listens, thats it.
Of course there are many times where there is a commander and the team listens but the times where there are no bunkers or bases falls under one of those two reasons.

The bunker door will face you when you deploy it,
the vehicles will spawn facing your left..

-Yes, blame the COs... You're the one not playing as CO and you're the one ignoring the CO.

I sometimes go commander if the position is avialable, yes it is stressful if you have a couple sqauds who are not very good and never build your firebase even though its right next to them, but it can be a breeze if all sqauds are working together.
I think most avoid the commander position because of this, I've seen commanders leave over one sqaud not doing the orders, even though 4 other sqauds are listening. I've seen others leave thinking that the battle is lost just because we din't take a flag in time.

Strategy is lost on many players.
Tactics are limited to up the middle for many players.
CSS/CoD4 mentality of teamwork does not work for PR.
There are things to build, teamwork to be had and orders to follow. None of which needs to be done in many other FPS games.
Bad habits are hard to unlearn. Too many players bring these bad habits to PR.

Yeah exactly. Thats why to few people go commander and to few people listen to commander. No mater how you put it will fall under the two reasons i gave.
