Footsteps from SmokeGrenade Sound Bug

Hey all, found this while testing my graphic settings on a local game. When you throw a smoke grenade at a surface[other than the ground] and run at the surface while releasing, the sound of your footsteps begins to play through the smoke grenade and continues to loop until the grenade disappears.

You throw it, it hits as you are running, bounces to the ground, you stop running, and you just hear a constant running loop sound of footsteps.

Not so much a big bug, but could be annoying, and might be easy enough to fix. The sound might not come across too well over youtube, but as the grenade moves to the right of the screen, the sound of the footsteps comes out of the right speaker, and same for when the grenade moves to the left of the screen.

I got it to work on both EJOD and Bi Ming. Im sure its NOT map specific, but I just checked those two to be a little more certain.

Steps to repeat? Well, follow the video. But you just throw a smoke grenade at a tree or sandbag, and while you are throwing it, you run forward towards the surface. As you release the smoke grenade hits the wall and begins to loop the sound your feet were making as you ran.

Dont know how this happens... maybe just a little glitch in the sound coding? bf2 problem? i dont really know :)

Enjoy :)

I believe this is the sound the grenade makes. I've noticed it tends to bounce on the ground ever so slightly and it makes a sound similar to footsteps. After the smoke gets deployed from the VBF2 smoke nade it does the same thing. The fact that it's sliding down the hill and moving probably makes the sound louder/worse.

No. It was also on flat ground on EJOD when the grenade was not moving. I guess I shouldnt have added the music :) but its not the grenade sound... and if it is, why is it ONLY when you run and throw it at a tree/sandbag. There were times I stood still and thew it and it just plopped down and made the Hiiiiissssssssssssss of the smoke releasing...

Only when I run, and hear my footsteps, does it loop this sound...

Either way, itd be nice to get fixed, but hell, I only just now noticed it...

Maybe Ill make another video showing more examples of the grenade not moving, me throwing it standing still, etc. for a clearer picture

*it might be the sound of the grenade landing over and over, but the thing is, its not landing over and over, its just sitting there or sliding. On ejod it wasnt even moving... just kept looping that sound ;) *

As far as I know, this is ancient. Have had that lots of times with smoke grenades, even long before 0.756. It's sounds like the grenade is bouncing, sort of.

This is the bouncing sound of the grenade. I've no idea why you only hear it when you're running to the grenade, i hear it everytime i get close to a thrown nade. No matter where/why/whatever. I always thought it would be the same as the vehicles that jump around if you parked them in a place thats too small for them or stuff like that. Since grenades in vanilla dont stay, but disappear, the problem isnt noticed in vanilla.

I might be wrong, but i'm quite sure i'm not.

Its not only when Im running "to" the grenade, its when Im running while I throw it at a tree/sandbag. After that I can stop moving and Ill still hear it.

I guess it is the sound of the grenade? But when its looped it sounds like a guy running... Hmm, anyway... interesting about vanilla nades not disappearing, its been too long for me to remember :)

Whilst bored, I'd watch a smoke grenade on the ground. It does make noises, and depending on the surface it's on, it sounds a little like footsteps.

You can see it shaking, you hear the smoke and the light "steps" sound it makes. Unholy if you ask me. :p It's like the puh you hear of a grenade bouncing.

Does it happen all the time for you? Like, whenever you ...watch a grenade does it always make those sounds?

Me its only happened when its bounced off a tree/sandbag like object first while i was running[which led me to think it was footsteps continuing, seeing as it loops in the footstep like manner :) ]...

I believe it happens all the time. I tend to pop smoke a lot, so I'll check BR files and Fraps the footage.
