Animations

Yes, whatabout them?
I suggest to add more animations where possible.
Examples (written as seconds timeline):

With the unsafe switch I mean the switch that prevents you from shooting that has to be switched on and off everytime while getting out or holstering your weapon. Except for pistols as they are supposed to be pulled quickly for better gameplay.

1.Sniper Rifle
Increase draw time of a sniper rifle to lets say 6 seconds.
Animation:
1-Basic getting out-2-Unsafe switch unlock-3-4-Scope Caps Opening-5-6-Bipod Deployment-Ready

2.HAT
Draw time is 15 IIRC.
1-2-3-4-Basic getting out-5-6-7-Safe switches-8-9-10-Tube check-11-12-13-Aim caps opening-14-15-Getting better grip on the grips-Ready

3.Standard Rifle
Set draw time to 3 secs.
1-Getting out-2-3-Unsafe switch.Ready

and so on... I dont mean exactly like written there, as I dont really know how long it takes and whats comfortable for playing, just a basic set up

Pro:
  • This gonna prevent fast switching and dont bore people for waiting 15 secs and dont knowing when its over and they are able to shoot
  • Looks even more realistic and feels realistic when you character is doing what you would normally do too in rl
Contra:
  • People will have to wait to shoot their enemies if seen instantly and maybe many of them will get pissed, but reality is reality...
  • You´ll need so much work for all this look realistic, more animators (someone said you would have only 1 or 2) and more time
And yes are the animations for drawing hardcoded? Are there animation possibilities for packing/holstering weapon back? Saw people doing much stuff in FH2 while using weapons, so basically thought that its possible. And about the animators, look for a team of them on the web you sure will find someone who´ll help. :)
Kinda long post, sorry for that. ;) Wanted to be precise and tell whats on my mind.

Yup found soms stuff for that:
YouTube - Battlefield 2 Re animated

YouTube - Battlefield 2 Re Animated #2

thats awesome, doing that, the same position of the gun, better animation quality, PR sounds, and voila PR is best mod ever :)

As far as I know the DEVs are short on animators, but ultimately a good idea.

But, does it take 3 seconds to take out a rifle? Trained soldiers can probably do it quite fast.

yes you´re right probably they can do it faster
reduce to 2? so 1.*swoosh* *take out* 2.*fast unlock* -> Ready

I would love to see such animations.

However, I just fired up 3DS Max and took a look at the weapon models.

Even if we would get an animator on this job I don't think we would be quite limited when it comes to vBF2 models.

Most of the weapon parts that could use animating (fire selector) are a part of the weapon itself. AFAIK touching any of this would break the copyright bullsh*t.

Tis a shame we cant get this stuff, alot of the animatinos looks more realistic- checking magazines etc.

I don't like his running animations, No solder is going to run with his weapon pointing up or straight, He should fix it so they point there weapons down like trained solders.

so here you go a full new deploy animation for the sniper:

download link from fileplanet (edit: or 2shared, fileplanet sucks somehow and doesnt let the download begin... -.-):

FilePlanet: Test movie on Battlefield 2

2shared - download tested.zip

(a zip called tested with an animated gif called tested^, 4,798 KB big)

this is a very early beta and will be reworked completely to match desired quality. so just look whats possible and what I gonna improve

So whats the deal with making a new prone animation? I'm assuming we can't edit the default BF2 one, but creating a new...more realistic prone animation would greatly benifit PR wouldn't it?

This is impossible as you cannot edit neither the prone nor the jump animation in first person. All I can do is to change the Stand To Crouch and Crouch To Prone - zoomed - animations so ppl can´t shoot while going to prone. But on the other side, to make a complete "To Prone" animation, would take several frames more and maybe be too long...

We´ll see, I dont really know what the Developers need, as I was not contacted from their side. Maybe they are not interested or hadnt recieved the forwarded message... Dunno, I gonna pm a DEV and get things clear.
cya and thx for replying
