Park Modus for Vehicles

Hi Guys,
i dont find anything here so i have to Post it because it fucked me up a little bit everytime...
Can we have a "Parking" Modus for Vehicles.
It sucked so much if you stand with an APC or a Tank on a Hill, and this thing is slyding arround like it wants...
At the moment it is not possible to park a Vehicle @ a hill or something like that. It never stands still. And so it is very hard to aim and take a clear shot on a long distance.

not possible afiak, how vehicles act when left can't be changed

no sry i dont mean when they are left or empty vehicles.
I mean when the are in use. The Gunner say stop - Target.
The Driver takes his finger from the button, the thing stop moving forward.
But if you are doing this on a hill or so, this thing slides to the side or wereever so that the Gunner has a Problem to aim targets on long range.

I made a similar thread about this ages ago, when they did the thing that stopped field dressings rolling down hills. I was wondering if that could be brought across, but I guess its a hollow dream.
Search for handbrake and you'll get thousands of results.

i hope the could fix it. Because it fucks me and many other players up. And it isnt very realitic to, that a up to 60 tonnes tank not stands still if no one gives Gas...

letzs wait for an answer of an Dev...
I dont think that it was planed to be like it is now.
In older versions this effect wasnt so hard. But now its "funny" what a tank or apc makes for thinks when the driver thinked he was parked...
And i think in RL a tank dont move like he wants...Sometimes even without a driver...
Some kid of "handbreak" would be nice.

It's an engine problem. Sorry...

There is a trick for APCs, that every driver should know:
When you stop, hit F3 (or other seat not occupied) and in the same second hit F1 to re-enter driver-position.
This makes the APC stop sliding, and makes gunning much more comfortable. AFAIK it does not apply to any other vehicles. And for some obscure reason this does not apply to the british vehicles at all, which is very very silly.

I'm no expert, in fact I'm taking a shot in the dark here, I was just thinking that because the Dev's, actually made the Brits from scratch, all the vehicles and what not, that something is different in the coding or something and that is why it doesn't work for Brits, but it does for everyone else.

its NOT an engine problem, its a physics problem in ALL games, ever noticed it in BF2? BF2142? the whole grand theft auto series? any racing game? infact, all games that exist cannot combat this problem due the fact that ingame phsyics are still extremely poor.
its due to the fact that when physics go into a game, and the game physics become functional, it then gets input "jump" so the engine then goes somethning like this:
Force up-> maximum height-> jump end-> Force down- ready for next input. so when you jump up, the engine knows how much force you exert (equal for all characters) the maximum height you will acheive (equal for all characters) and when to bring you back down (equal for all characters).
the force down is on all the time and is referred to as gravity, this does not get turned off or on, it is constantly there. so when a vehicle goes up a hill and stops it gets something like this:
Vehicle forward-> inclination up-> speed loss-> Vehicle forward end-> force down.
the only reason it does come down as fast is due to traction:
Vehicle traction + Ground surface - Force Down = ?£%$"£xY-Z etc.
and the result? the computer will always come to the same conclusion. the vehicle has to slide down the hill the fastest route possible. the only way to stop it is to increase ground or vehicle traction, but then you'd all be sitting 90 degrees upward on the face of a mountain. NOT going to happen.

ATM, i'm using my joystick throttle to hold vehicles on slopes with thrust, but some vehicles (notably the warrior) don't like it very much. But this could be my old cheap joystick's fault.

Slope angle - θ

coefficient of friction - μ
You have a reaction force of mgCosθ, the maximum force acting as resistance is μmgCosθ, also refered to as μR. Once mgSinθ rises above μmgCosθ the vehicle WILL slide on unbroken, solid ground.
ie, Sinθ > μCosθ, Tanθ > μ. As 0 < μ < 1, the maximum value for Tanθ is 1, and so all vehicles should start to slide once the slope is greater than 45°. Unless it rests on a rock or digs into the ground, of course.
I assume game engines will handle it in a a similar way, its quite easy afterall. So increasing grip will increase μ and you will ALWAYS slide above a certain angle. Which means you will ALWAYS get people complaining about sliding. The problem could easily be reduced though.
i was never good at algebra, so i never got that in physics. i blame my pc!.

and yet this goes to show nothing can be done, increase the mass tanks slide faster, increase grip we climb silly angles, lower gravity we jump to the top of TV station with ease, lower the slopes.........no one is going to create new maps. sorry.
thread concluded i reckon
(thank you for the maths not a chance in hell i could research it)

interesting point of discussion, can it be done? although would it mean flying tanks? (the front already gets lifted up pretty high over mounds and hills)
