thermal vision

ok so here is a new look on a old issue. first when i was trying to make a night map i replaced most of the sky.con for kashan with a night map sky.con, now this made the ground and everything look dark, but the vehicles and people would still glow cus of the light maps. so that is like thermal vision but it wouldnt really work cus it would always be on.
so if you used python to check if a player was in a chopper, then if python was to edit the sky.con and the player would have this effect and it would look like thermal vison.
but the only issue with this is, can python check if a player is in the gunner seat of a chopper and also could python edit the sky.con?
so anyone know anything about bf2 python?

That would be very nice if that worked, but i doubt it.

looking at python here is a line of code that looks like it would do what we need
EnterVehicle(playerObject, vehicleObject[, freeSoldier])
here is some info off the wiki
Player represented by playerObject has entered the vehicle represented by vehicleObject. "freeSoldier" is 1 if the player is a passenger of the vehicle and is able to use weapons/objects of his kit. i.e. seat 4(+) of a black hawk. --Kiff 11:21, 25 January 2006 (MST)
so it also looks like it would be able to do this only for the gunner.

This would be pretty cool!
never played on a night map with the wrong light maps before... So how much do they glow?

here are some pics from a while back
now you can change the color of trees, statics and the ground by editing the sky.con. now you might think this wouldnt work on a night map, but you could just use black hot instead of white hot like in real life.

or at least an R-CON, perhaps they are waiting on the ballistics to be done.

well i was talking to wookie scouty, said that python is not client side, and that it is not possible for the server to tell the client to change a .con file. so unless we find another way to change the sky.con this idea wont work.
edit again: ok so i was talking to him again, he said that you could use rcon_invoke to change the con file in the memory and then when the game is closed the file would be back to normal just like what we need. here is the code he said would do it
host.rcon_invoke(command)
so we need a dev that knows python to post and see if this is possible.

Don't expect a Dev to post without some kind of notification about it. They necessarily don't have time to read every single thread on the forums, remember?

umm, some FLIR cameras do go black hot instead of white hot. but if these changes really could be put into project reality on all helicopters and APCs and tanks it would be absolutely awesome.

well i dont really have a choice if it is black or white hot, if it is a night map it will have to be black hot if it is a day map it will have to be white.

Actually you can switch to either in RL

Would this also work on the day version?

yes
this is the way it works
i can change the color of everything but the players and vehicls as this is set by the lightmaps, so on a day map we have to use white hot, there is no choice in this, on a night map it is the same i can make the ground white but the vehicls and players will have to stay black so it has to be black hot.
