Cheater Rant

Having just come off a round of play where I was frustratingly encountering numerous (apparent) cheaters, I decided to make a short rant and post it.

The cheat I am referring to is that which allows players to modify their executable file to disable PR shaders, thereby eliminating the suppression effect and bleed-out effect. I have found evidence of this during the many times I am putting suppression fire on an enemy only to have him take me down with a precisely aimed shot to the head. While at 10m this could be considered blind luck, I have also witnessed it from distances of 50m and beyond, with me playing the part of an Automatic Rifleman and the opposing player as a scoped rifleman. I was on full auto, spraying his position constantly, but he just lined up, aimed, waited, and fired.

I pity any person who chooses to modify their game in this fashion. The suppression effect is an amazing piece of work by the developers, and like it or not, it creates a crucial balance of power on the battlefield. Anyone who willfully removes this feature is cheating, plain and simple, and for what? Do those few extra kills really make your game that much more enjoyable?

I will never understand what makes a cheater do what a cheater does. All I can say is that I am now all the more eagerly anticipating PR 0.8, which will supposedly include a fix, preventing any players from tampering with shaders. My only wish is that the Developers would instead release a quick-fix instead for 0.75 so that we could continue playing the current version and not have to wait for months more to pass.

End Rant...

Well, some computers just can't seem to get the effect going. :( One of the comps I used to play PR can't get the effect, no matter how many re-installs, re-patches or cache deletes I do. So I stopped playing on it.

But I can see people doing this on purpose for a little illegal edge. Sad they can't stick to vanilla.

yeah supression effect should be revamped, and so that you cant aim at all when getting suppressed.

The suppression effect is nice as is, it should just be made impossible to disable it.

I mean in real life suppressed combat units would still blind fire.

When someone already aimed at you he can still have a lucky shot if you didn't change the position but I have to agree you that there some people out there which are still cheating but how should we get rid of them. These silly cheater find always a way to hack the game. What should the server admins do? We at 10th run punkbuster + pb masterbanlist + reviewing screenshots frequently. I don't know if we can do more against it. And I really don't know if the Devs can do a lot about it.
BTW: Could it be that people with slower computers have a longer suppressing effect?

No thankyou, say you were moving across open ground (thinking it was clear ofc) and som1 starts shootin at ya, with the current system you ca at least get a couple of reasonable shots off in the hope of survival.

My guess is at least 9/10 of these "cheaters" either had a nearby teammate shoot the guy in the head or just got a lucky shot.

I have 1G RAM and a 128mb GPU and I run about 60-80 FPS depending and I get suppressed.
I have killed people while being suppressed, but as mentioned, it was at short range when my weapon was already pointing at them.

Look on the bright side, when the shaders are made untouchable, think of all the crybabies we can abuse when they start flooding the forum with their claims of PR's imminent doom unless the effect is removed.

I didn't get to pick on any of the .7 crybabies as I was offline for two weeks around the time of the release so I have some stored up.

The suppression effect is one of the great things about this mod, and there are a lot of great things.
So I share the OPs anger at people that deliberately disable them in order to gain a minor advantage.

But we know they are ( insert stream of invective here ) and whats' more, they know they are that too so in the long run, who cares about that type ?

I have this happen to me a lot too but i think most of the time its luck. I know sometimes when i get suppressed and i feel like i have no where to go i will just jump up and start shooting in their direction in hopes of getting lucky. I do. A lot :)

I've gotten lucky, sometimes it feels like you've given them the killing blow and they can't see their own nose and they pop off one more shot and Boom, instakill.

But saying that, that has happened to me quite a few times aswell.

anticipating PR 0.8, which will supposedly include a fix, preventing any players from tampering with shaders!

Hope the above is right....
That’s poor you can turn it off…its part of my game now, trying to pin down the enemy the only time I could say that the other guy may have turned it off was a sniper took me out when I had a heavy machine gun blasting over his head, To me it looked like he just turned around on the roof and shot me, even though the area above his head was getting blasted…..

I Was in a Clan game for another game ( FM08 ) but some of us left as a few were using an exploit which gave them the edge every match…so a poor team won the title over my team of better players playing the honest way.

Any fix to the exploit for suppression is a poke in the eye to these cheaters. So right behind the poor sole fixing it, Take another cup of coffee and get it fixed.

remember though that the effect doesnt work if you fire "over" someones head. Only if you strike a surface near them

Thats what you could be noticing

I think the suppression effect needs a little bit of tweaking. In the fact that I, personnally, like to sneak up behind enemies and try to first, knife him as not to give away my position, and secondly to shoot him if I can't knife him. I'll get 1 or 2 shots off and suppress myself and he'll turn around and head shot me. My opinion is if Im the one firing at close range, I don't think I should be able to suppress myself, mainly because I know I'm shooting at close range...I'm expecting it.

I have been noticing some exploitation of shaders recently, but not by too many people. They probably won't last long in the community when they get bored and move on, we hope.

Why the hell would someone cheat in PR? That doesn't make any sense. You play the game for what it is. Why don't they just play BF2 instead.
