Mines: buried?

I was thinking that it's pretty stupid to just leave mines laying around on a road. If you could make it so that when the engineer drops them, they just land above ground. But, if he chooses, he could wrench on them(bury them) for a set time and the mine would be buried. Maybe just make a very small portion visible.

If you could pickup mines with the "G" key, like they are going to do, it will free up the wrench to "bury" mines.

Yea it would be cool, and no to that thing about picking them up, EA said they removed it cuz they had some problems with it :(

This would be probaly impossibal to acturly berrie them. you cant just dig a whole its not that simpal. If you could change the hightmaps ingame then EA would have done lots of cool effects like tanks shells would make small crators in the ground ect. the fact is if they had this in the game you would gets lots and lots of that lovley thing we like to call "lag"

Now a way you could do this is make a littel animation, and have the min go 3/4 underneath the hightmap with a little bit of dirt on the little bit thats still sticking out the top. that could work too.

Also is shooting a tank shell at land mines and they blow up realistic or not? i think it really depends on if the mine took a direct hit ect. I dont think a exsplosion next to a min would set them off.

Not with the mines as they can already be picked up.

Either way, it would be cool if the engineer was given the ability to bury them. Its hard NOT to notice them. Its get even worse when the obvious place for a mine is a road, where there arent any grass.

Regarding the mine explosions, I think that's going to be fixed in the patch. I'm still wondering who the freakin **** ever came up with the idea for the last patch. Absolutely NO ONE asked for blowing up the mines. Everyone complained the TKs instead. I mean, the very idea that a tank gun should blow a tank mine is completely beyond my comprehension when the engineer is the one that has the ability to disarm them.

But I guess sometimes developers are as dumb as doorbells too.

I am against it... another reason to camp, not to rush...

Ohh i though you meant like in the new patch pic them up and use them somewhere else :P they removed that featurer

chuck on top of ground = normal time

bury = much longer, but more effective against enemys, as you cannot see them.

Contreverisally, this could be a problem for friendly vehicles too, but if you wanna take the gamble ;)

I like the Idea but I don't think it's all that feasable is it?

FH managed to do it pretty well. If it's possible, when you 'bury' the mine, instead of the whole dang mine getting placed into the world, you just place a model of the little pressure pin.

what i was going along the lines of. Then you put abit of disturbed dirt arround this pressuar ping within the model 8-)

Yeah, I never meant to actually dig a hole in the ground. I just meant a model change and a longer length of time to deploy.

And that sucks that ea took out the "G" key, for picking up mines.

I think the "primary/secondary fire keys" idea would work well, like was said by solo.

I think this is a great idea. As a Combat Engineer in RL, above ground mine feilds are used for speed, deterance, and to slow enemy movement. Very often mines are not buried when all you want to do is set a temperaty mine feild. The new rules of landwarefare say that we cannot leave any mine behind that does not destroy itself after a period of time. So leaving mines on the surface, increases the ease of removal. But all RL stuff aside, we should be able to bury them as they are too easily destroyed. Why can't they be removed with C-4 ? WTF?

With the new patch, you won't be able to detonate them with other explosives. That's not to say that you won't be able to in PRMM.

LOL @ BOHICA

I've always been annoyed that you can't use the M95 in vanilla BF2 to destroy C4, mines or claymores. One of the 'official' job for anti-material rifles is ordinance disposal, isn't it? So let us dispose of ordinance with it!
I know this isn't applicable to PR, but I just needed to vent.

solo, i like your idea... it should be implementable... but might be harder because BF2 physics are less well understood than 42's... the mines could do all sorts of crazy stuff (points at little bird)

The mine shouldn't need to drop into the ground at all. Rhino's idea, just a new model, perhaps one that looks like disturbed ground should be enough.

From the picture, you can see that no part of the mine is visible. So the only thing you would be able to see would be little pile of upset ground above it.

I always see the other part laying on the ground not the side with the mobile phone, but the way the Arty IEDs are being put in the ground is the best. Not too obvious but also not impossible to see.
